Streaming video files
Arent this on demand videos better then the download version? I made some AVS sites with streaming videos and then some galleries with video streams but 80% of TGPs wouldnt accept the video streaming format.

that's because surfers want to download once, and view unlimited, with no wait.
regardless of what you might like. |
yea but if they have a good connection they can watch it play and skip the download. I guess streaming media isnt for the adult internet

However, the reason most users prefer to download is that people cant afford a good streaming server and the pipe to feed a ton of broadband users. So a streamed clip is jerky if available at all. The users would rather wait for the download than watch a stream that is constantly having to rebuffer and getting marginal quality. Plus they can then watch it over and over again. Real Media just released their Helix media server to open source. It'll be interesting to see if anyone comes up with some new viable technical and financially viable streaming models. It really is silly that we're dumping megs upon megs of clips upon these users instead of just streaming the content. |
surfers like downloadable clips - because they are on the computer, they can view them offline for ever, and they don't need to go back to a specific site in order to view again.
there are other reasons too. but why get into them? you can talk all you like about what you want to feed the surfers, but if they aren't eating it, who really gives a fuck? |
Surfers like clips, be them embedded or not, they love clips.
If you give them a chance to download them directly to your drive, you loose some crucial chances of making sales. 1) they download your stuff, spend less time on your ads and move on to the next clips on another gallery. 2) If they are low on ram, windows will close all other applications in order to free some Ram for windows media player, thus that might close your page with the ads and you've a free jerking surfer more. You've got less chances to sell, which is not what we want. Not all surfers have 500mb ram in their machines. 3) surfers can still download the embedded clips through rightclick menu, but if you don't want to, you can restrict that as well. If you mean with streaming videos : e.g. mpeg files which you embed in pages, please feel free to submit your galleries to free-porn-review.com =) I take them as long as they are of quality I don't take rm-files anymore, since i received complaints from surfers who dont like that format or the realplayer at all. But "streamed" mpg files are always welcome on my site =) Cheers, Michael |
