Biden worth around 150k? FAIL

Dude is a lawyer, a senior senator that makes about 165k/year... and the Washington Post has his net worth at 100-150k... Umm.. I know old ladies who worked as secretaries their whole lives (55yo now) and have 100-150k in the bank! What a failure!

I once was thinking of joining a company that got people out of foreclosure. This was years ago. The guy showed me the list they worked off of to talk to people about their service. I figured it would be in all low rent area. The avg house was about 400k and in the hi end area of buck head I was shocked. The man told me you would be shocked how many people driving mercedes and wearing hi end watches living paycheck to paycheck.

DatingGold 09-09-2008 02:57 PM

it's a lie

Evil E 09-09-2008 04:07 PM

klaze 09-09-2008 06:06 PM

That sounds like most companies and the United States of America.

So no, not really:)

pocketkangaroo 09-09-2008 06:16 PM

He's been a Senator most of his adult life. And while it's a comfortable living, it's not huge. Remember that he had to raise his kids on his own for awhile after his wife and kid were killed. I'm guessing with home, child care, travel, college, etc, it's tough to keep up. $160k isn't a lot of money if you have kids and live in a wealthy area.

I used to work with a woman that for years was a legal assistant to a lawyer that dealt with bankruptcies. She said a very large number of the bankruptcies he handled were from people making over 100K a year. They would buy too many cars, too big of house and then rack up thousands and thousands of dollars in credit card debt buying expensive vacations and things they had no resale value like clothes and toys.

notoldschool 09-09-2008 06:43 PM

shame on him for not being an elite and being like most of the US citizens.

IllTestYourGirls 09-09-2008 06:45 PM

Ya working for 4 days a week part of the year does not pay much. It should pay less and they should only work 1 day a week. Things would be much better. Get the government out of our fucking lives.

So true! The people living in a house that is comfortable but not overbearing and drive a sensible car are quite often the ppl with the higher net worth. My parents old neighbor had like 5 high end cars, big house and his own private jet. Turns out he was way over his head in debt. Filed for bankruptcy then was arrested for embezzling.

IhostSEO 09-09-2008 07:48 PM

I told him to hang out with the pharma lobbyist .... He didn't listen :Oh crap

acctman 09-09-2008 08:03 PM

i'm pretty sure he has more than what they found. Anyone smart hides money or has investments that arent publically known. you can make 165kyr but have investments worth millions that arent publically known

LiveDose 09-09-2008 08:04 PM

I'm sure he has money offshore.

i hardly think he is like most people.

fallenmuffin 09-09-2008 09:09 PM

How does that hurt him? I mean yeah so he's bad with money but he isn't in charge of it just a stand-in. Plus don't we want "people from the street" that know how much shit cost and how hard it can be to make it.

Plus he is one crazy bastard.

I'm voting for Obama/Biden, but you've really gotta think about how competent a person with that type of net worth would be at running the economy of the USA.

Mutt 09-09-2008 09:42 PM

that's more likely a testament to Joe Biden's character - he is a public servant who doesn't have his hand out waiting to get his palm greased like 99% of politicians. it makes me sick when I see career politicians who are millionaires just from being politicians
i used to live down the street from one of them - the man's whole career was municipal politics yet he was living in a 2 million dollar home - and no he didn't come from a rich family - his money came from sweetheart deals he was let in on only because he had tremedous power in city politics

if your figures are correct and a US senator makes $165,000 a year - minus income taxes - that's just barely enough for a man to support a wife and kids half decently and he would have very little money for other investments other than a home

I'd agree with that, it just shows he isn't abusing his position and isn't money hungry like most other politicians.

kmanrox 09-09-2008 10:22 PM

why does my old lady friend who made less than 30k / year her whole life have more than biden does in the bank? she drives a nice lexus, lives in a nice house in a gated community too... and no she's not married or got any alimony etc..?

yes, he's broke like most americans.. yay... but do you really want someone with the financial skills of a rock as your VP?

hell, on the same note, look at Obama.. I've seen his worth under 1mil (some say up to 2 mil)... fucking harvard law degree, almost 50 years old for christ sake... sounds like he's missing some vital skills too...

amazing

No kidding, you know the guy could have taken money if he wanted to or needed to. Maybe he helped finance his own campaigns, who knows what he spent his money on but I don't see how you can judge the guy without knowing where it went.

Maybe he spent his time helping less fortunate and in community service positions. I heard that dont pay much in the way of kickbacks. There are things more important than money to some people, its called selfless service.

cherrylula 09-10-2008 06:29 PM

Snake Doctor 09-10-2008 09:53 PM

You say that like it's a bad thing, at least you know he's not on the take.

The guy has a bunch of kids and he put them all through college, at least two through law school (Yale no less) and he's married to a school teacher. I think it's honorable that the guy hasn't used his position to feather his own nest.
