Problem uploading 1.3 GB file. Need help.

Ok this is about to push me over the edge.

Been trying to upload a 1.3 GB file since last night.

I'm using SmartFTP (paid version)

File uploads fine but when it reaches the end it starts all over again. and again and again

I tried alternate ftp client, same thing.

I have 2MB upload/ 20 MB down speed so it takes me 1:30 mins to upload this file.

Anyone have this problem?

That's just pre-checked uploads fucking with ya.

Klen 09-09-2008 12:18 PM

Could be server where you try to upload have some limitations

klaze 09-09-2008 12:20 PM

Wow that's fucked up..

grumpy 09-09-2008 12:36 PM

its a limitation on the server you are uploading, prob not enough mem to catch the file

BV, I'm going to be moving to Vegas this month, and I'm looking to get a kick ass REAL internet connection like you have and not this 8megs down 513k up dsl shit I currently have in the small town I live in.
Is that a cable connection/business ? I really want a fast uptime, tired of spending 2 to 3 hours uploading.

i checked, no limitations
plenty of free disc space on this server
500GB total (1TB Raid1)

phatservers is rebuilding my ftp daemon and updating OS kernel as we speak, we'll see what that does,

no it's just my residential (Road Runner) thru brighthouse.
they just doubled it. (for free)

they should have that in vegas (or better)

also a bit of advice.

if u rent an office and that address is zoned business, the cable company,(here it was brighthouse) wants to charge you 4x the price for 1/4 the speed. Where I rent an office I ran into this.

So in short if you are getting it to your home then you should be ok, and dont mention business (just to be safe)

If you plan on getting an office that's classified as a business address then be prepared to pay more money for slower service

I argued with them, there point is that since its a business they offer like better round the clock service .... but that's bullshit, they offer good service to residential customers too.

Any filesystem should be able to handle up to a 2GB file, even if your server hasn't been updated in 6 years.

There's something wrong with your server's configuration and/or FTP daemon.

i've used filezilla, didnt have copy and paste only drag and drop and i dont like that style interface as much as smart's
i've used about every ftp client worth a shit, smartftp is by far the best,

also firefox fireftp i cant get to upload faster than 47KB sec( anyone else experience this), filezilla is faster like smartftp is, same connection i can get almost 250 KBS upload

Zoose 09-09-2008 01:41 PM

Like someone else said try FlashFXP if you haven't already. It seems to handle quirky shit like that better then any other FTP client I've tried. It sounds server side though.. but in that case I would expect Phat to have the solution. GL
