Top Google Adwords Gurus... Any Idea How This Is Done?

open google in the us.. search "tampa lawyers" go to the page "more sponsored links" and you should might see that ad. if not, you can find them locally by searching other crap... search "mesothelioma attorney" or whatever, and you will see similar ads... all doing the same thing.

.... so..
  • you have an ad: display url "sortprice.com" (normal, live site - seems like site using store feeds, mixed with other crap)
  • Ad destination URL is www.keyconversions.net - which shouldn't happen or should make the ad inactive... that domain redirects the user
  • i've found dozens of domains doing this for high paying keywords today. many are targeting the highest paying keywords... which makes it seem a bit more odd that Google hasn't stopped this or that Google is allowing it to happen.

How are they doing that? Any ideas?

Looks very wierd. G will probably catch it soon...

96ukssob 09-09-2008 12:15 PM

truthfully they probably doing some cloaking or URL redirect by IP. Ive seen it done a dozen times.

there are a few companies that have special permission to have a different display URL and destination URL, but the forwarding probably means they are cheating somehow. most of these ads will only run for a few hours or days, but some can go on for some time before they are caught.

email adwords support and rat them out :winkwink:

the display url has to equal the destination url, but you can use tracking urls to filter through first, such as in this case:
sortprice.com -> keyconversions.net takes in tracking info, then forwards to -> sortprice.com

I have this set up for a number of clients, but the forwarding to projectorpro.org is a hack

right... i was thinking that.. .that somehow they were getting permission from Google to use those URL's for tracking and then later fucking google and going out with a bang

you dont need special permission to use tracking urls between the display and destination URL. i just set up a campaign this morning doing that and is pretty common because most people dont have the ability to track certain data right off their site

at the same time, i have 2 accounts where i have a different display and destination url and thats because im using a 3rd party host so i can do call and email tracking

i'll leave Tampa around 6 and head your way. then i'll enjoy stomping your arrogant fucking head into the ground before I go get some dinner.

BradM 09-09-2008 12:40 PM

There's no rule against using tracking URLs. The tracking url though may redirect based on conditions. And if the adwords approver doesn't catch it, the ad makes it through.

I can buy an ad, display as jizzbomb.com, link it using my tracker cumox.biz and land it on jizzbomb.

Now if it's LANDING on a different page then they are illegally redirecting and you can report that ad.

i've never seen an ad in recent years go live with two domains. i had no idea you could do that just by setting up a campaign.

it seems like everyone would be doing this stuff if it wasn't controlled or allowed in some manner thats controlled.

BradM 09-09-2008 12:46 PM

ya you can do all sorts of stuff... if goog doesn't catch you. also I can setup like 50 different ads in each campaign with different landing/display urls. there's really no policing of it.

DO NOT meet with him if you are ANY OTHER RACE. Pussyserver will sue you for a racial hate crime if you touch him.

anyone can set up tracking URLs, a lot of people do.

however for different display and destination urls (NOT using tracking) you need special permission.

for example i have a site like this...

clients site is XYZToys.com and want to track conversions and how many people call.
I duplicated his site, changing his phone numbers to tracking numbers and I host his site like this xyztoys.mysite.com
so essentially xyztoys.myhost.com is the same as xyztoys.com but with different phone numbers for tracking.

look around, especially at service based sites you will see it (i.e. reach local)

i'm not black... not delusional and not morbidly obese with a big mouth.

maybe your right...

obese = discrimination
black = hate crime
delusional = mentally ill

i'm fucked on all fronts if i go in front of the judge

Your only saving grace might be if you are a fit blonde hair blue eyed guy.

I get away with almost everything and make friends with cops in the process. :)

thanks! anytime i ever fucked up the URL or typed anything where the destination domain and display domain didn't match (since they made this rule) has gotten the ad flagged/disabled.

Probably these are just old ads. When they implemented the rule the final destination url *must* match the display url it only seemed to apply to newly created ads. The only started policing this about 6 months ago.

florida doesnt have any issues with white on black crime. in fact, i think they actually encourage it... :2 cents:

MaDalton 09-09-2008 04:18 PM

i am new to this and maybe i got that wrong, but when i use something like zanox and link directly to the destination instead of a landing page (for those who allow that) wouldn't then be the display url www.example.com and the destination url something like www.zanox.com/xxx/xxx/xxx ?

which would be fine - as far as i understood.
