Does working in this industry FUCK you up more MENTALLY or PHYSICALLY?
 

I can't decide.

Mentally you're totally removed from every "normal person" who works outside the industry, and it's hard to relate to anyone outside the business. Particularly hard if you ever bother going out and making small talk at parties etc.

Physically you're likely to overdo it on the pharmaceutical assistance and alcohol front, lack of exercise spending too many hours in front of a screen.

I never got the whole its hard to relate to normal people (wtf is that anyways, have you seen the shit they buy?) or people outside of the industry. I figure if your going to be a shut in your going to be one regardless.

People really only let their work do what they want to them, an excuse of sorts. Nothing requires them to work all day or night, stay inside, or hell even work inside. Nor does it dictate that you must eat poorly, drink alcohol, use drugs, or be lazy.

any job that removes you from daily interaction with others from different backgrounds will cause some social problems. if you are a person who works from home or alone your exposure to others is limited even if you go out, hang out, party etc. if you work in an office in the industry most likely the people surrounding you are others with backgrounds in adult or similar.

in mainstream you interact with different demographics, backgrounds...people with a skill set but from different businesses so your work/social interaction is different. it's just different that's all. if you were in any specialized industry it would be the same

I think my head is far more fucked up due to this industry than my body. As Jens pointed out, you can just go to the Gym.

However watching all this porn and in so many fucked up niches screws up my relationship to sex a bit. I definately expect more kinky sex than I did prior to my time in adult hehe.

It also gives me a bit of stress since people are SO FUCKING TERRIBLE at keeping what they promise. It's always two steps forward and one step back.

I have recently been buying ads in the high $x,xxx range and once the money is shipped everything takes a lightyear. A lot of people in this biz cant see further than the next time they receive money.
I have so far been treated far better in my big mainstream deals.

There are of course a lot of good companies in adult. Have been doing biz with SearchBoxxx.com the last week and they know what service is all about :)

It's just obscure that's all, I've been doing this full time for the last 5 years, but before then managed 50 staff, and had to do the rat race 5 days per week. Now it's just me, some business partners and the R.O.W.

It shouldn't do either....However, I let it get the best of me....

Not necessarily working in the adult biz...But working at home sitting on my ass every day...It gets addictive...

But now, I go to the gym and work out hard and then hit the jacuzzi, sauna, and steamroom damn near every day....Then you can come home and sit for the rest of the day without it taking a toll on your health..It's only 11:30 am here and had finished working out by 10am...Now I have all day to do nothing but scratch my nuts and wait for my kids to get back from school.

Life is good.

People outside of adult do not have any respect for the people who work in adult at all.. They also have a completely fucked up idea of what the adult industry is actually like..

Now you're talking. Working out is beneficial physically of course. But what you have found out is it also benefits you mentally and emotionally too. I started working out back in 1995 and went from 130 pounds to 210 of muscle (I'm 6' tall) and I feel like a million bucks. Good for you BVF. Even though you're still a dick. LOL :pimp

Ironically, porn has made me accept my body more because of the different body types that guys find hot. I used to have the "Barbie doll syndrome" where I had a negative self image because I wasn't blonde hair, blue eyed with big boobs. I no longer have the compulsion to get a boob job to feel better about myself.

Even with the social isolation, being a webwhore has been good for my head. As close to perfect as it gets.

Physically? Not so much. I have so much geek work to do at the computer it's hard for me to make time to exercise, especially since I'm not an exercising sort. I know part of my job is to look good, but like JD said, you can still be a fat ass and make money. It's really the geek work at the computer that brings it in for an indie like myself where we do everything on our sites, from being IN the content, to shooting the content to blogging to design to building promos to promoting ourselves to getting other people to promote us by administering our program.

When my body is fucked up, so is my head -- don't sleep as good, don't feel as good about myself, makes work harder which fucks with my head, not as efficient, and then I use food as my drug of choice to make me feel better so it's a vicious circle.

Yeah, everyone is right that the job doesn't FORCE these consequences on you, but when you only have so many hours in the day sometimes sitting here typing useless posts on GFY is much more appealing than going for a run on your jiggly 35-year-old legs.

It depends on how u manage your time. Find time to exercise & try to learn something other then porn. I get tired also because I have been in this business for 10 years & its hard to get motivated & sales are not like before so it could be stressful. What I do, I take a few hours a day do some exercise, sauna, jacuzzi and massage once in awhile.
