Went to dragon con last year. Missed it this year because I was in a log cabin by a mountain lake chilling and fishing. Dragon con was alot of fun, excellent people watching, lots of great art displays and crafts got to meet a few celebs, meet some of my favorite fantasy artists, and took alot of great pics. I'll post up some pics in a bit.

If you can get past the hardcore geeks there is plenty to see!

Ever been to FenCON?

FenCON 5 is coming up in Dallas/Ft Worth in October. How many ppl usually attend these? They seem like they would be fun, especially for sci-fi fans, but I'm not a die-hard, I was just looking for an alternative "holiday weekend" other than the beach or the typical crap and a convention that has nothing to do with work, just to relax.

Dragon Con back in the early 90's was scary. They were usually in too small of a space and the place reeked of sweat, latex, and bodypaint. If you could get past that it was a good time.
I did San Diego Comic-con 8 years in a row but missed the last few years. That is the mother of all shows and there is always something cool to see.

I've been to Dragon*Con about 5 times when I lived in Atlanta. They were fun.

So far I found the following happening within the next 2 months, let me know if you have ever been to or heard of the following: (I do realize some of them are not in the most appealing destinations, but if I go, it's for the convention only so the city doesn't matter, the quality of the convention does.) Oddly enough the flights from the East to West Coast are cheaper than 1.5 hr flights up my coast. (???)

Yeah. it was not at all what I expected. Met some very cool people, and of course the freaks come out too. The pirate pool party / orgy was interesting last year.
