Classical music

I was just wondering if the people in here also spend time listening to classical music when they're not busy watching midget bukkake and the likes.

My own personal favorites would be:

Bizet - Carmen
Bach - Mattheus Passion (saw this one live, pretty impressive)
Faure - Elegie in C-minor

And a whole bunch of other ones I can't come up with right now.

eru 10-29-2002 02:48 PM

I listen to Enya.

I have an extensive collection of Mozart. (yes, really)

Naughty 10-29-2002 02:57 PM

I own some Mozart, Strauss and Beethoven.

I love Aria's though, going to buy me some of that soon.

Exxxotica 10-29-2002 03:03 PM

I actually spend a lot of time listening to classical. It's really soothing to work to. I have my stereo set to a NPR station that plays classical all day long. Good stuff! :thumbsup

Is Tupac classic yet? He's been dead for a while now...

InsaneMidget 10-29-2002 03:21 PM

I listen to it rarely...

Beastiepoo 10-29-2002 03:26 PM

I find Mozart and Verdi very uplifting. Unfortunately my hubby thinks its too heavy to work to. I listen when I can.

SilverTab 10-29-2002 03:46 PM

Not that much of a classic fan, but I tend to listen to a little bit of everything... Here's my favorites...

Felix Mendelssohn - Violin Concerto in E Minor
Albinoni - Adagio for Strings in G Minor
Most of the bethoven's symphony.... (4, 5 especially)
maybe some more, but nothing that comes to mind now...

Jamdin 10-29-2002 03:46 PM

I like some classical music especially Wagner, Mozart, Beethovan , Bach, Chopin & Vivaldi. I had a bunch of classical cassettes but I wore a few of them out & the others broke.

Wenchy 10-29-2002 04:54 PM

I listen to classical quite a bit these days... all the standards (Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Vivaldi, Ravel, Bach, etc.). My current favorite is The Marriage of Figaro, but that could change at any time :)

Cheshire 10-29-2002 05:02 PM

Vivaldi always sends me

ControlThy 10-29-2002 05:06 PM

Bel canto.
I am suprised there is so much interest in classical music on this board.

The Other Steve 10-29-2002 05:36 PM

Elgar and Vivaldi for me - with a bit of Smetana on the side :)

archer 10-29-2002 07:06 PM

i like most of the standards like Bach, etc.

I've never liked anything by Mozart... dunno why. He makes me wanna gag.

It was the Duke (Ellington) who said, when asked what kind of music he liked, "There are only two kinds of music: good and bad." (that may be a paraphrase, but I have the gist right)

I like all kinds of music. When it comes to classical, I love Bach instrumental music (not much of a choral fan under any circumstance), Ravel & Debussy, Hindemith, Bartok, and Respighi.

Did you ever think how much a lot of the dramatic soundtrack music in the movies owes to Ravel and Debussy?

same here

I wonder how long it will be before Duke Ellington is considered a classic composer?

Firehorse 10-29-2002 08:07 PM

Mozart, especially violin concertos # 3 & 4!:thumbsup

That's strange... Ive always thought Mozart's music sounded really "gay". Lots of staccato, lots of light happy melodies.

(yeah bro.. Im stereotyping people again :winkwink: )

Outside of salsa/merengue music, Classical seems to help me become very productive when working.

Not much...

Aside from the traditional classics like Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Mahler, and Liszt... try some of the other greats..
Charles Ives,
Dmitri Shostakovich,
Gustav Holst,
Aaron Copland,
Iannis Xenakis,
Leonard Slatkin,
John Adams,
John Cage,
Krzysztof Penderecki,
and of course Arnold Schoenberg

A lot of those older ones are pretty much reserved for period pieces, and many of the others have written pieces which are inserted into movies. I'm referring to the STYLE of the music used in most dramatic movies with original soundtracks.

Bach still preforms live, eh?
