I won't say they suck, because they don't. But, much like M*A*S*H, the time has come and gone. Stop fucking playing it.

I was talking about the TV series. The movie was awesome. The TV show was OK until they let Alda take over and then it got all preachy and annoying.

Oh I love Dave Gahan solo and with Depeche Mode.

CarlosTheGaucho 09-06-2008 12:32 AM

What's especially unique about Pink Floyd is that they were able to release concept albums that worked with the masses and received massive popularity. Fed with radio airplay of the songs that are more radio tailored.

This is very unique, especially these days when one has a hard time to think of a current act that could get away with it - probably Tool can get away with a concept album and 10 minute songs and sell millions of copies, but then again they are not this easy to push into a mainstream radio and they have their "tool" fans.

It's actually that they might easily be the least contraversial and best mass accepted band in the history.

There are dozens of bands from the 60s and 70s that were better than these. Comparing them to Floyd shows your musical knowledge.

Floyd are remembered for many reasons, one was their ground breaking approach to music. They did things that had never been done and made it work, coupled with the song writing talents of Roger Waters and David Gilmour they made it work very well.

Saw them three times live. Once when they were all high as kites, Syd was not the only one who liked the chemicals, once in the Rainbow theatre London where they performed Dark side and once in Earls Court where they did The Wall. The last one was one of the best live shows I have ever been to.

Well the feeling is mutual. The Cure is overrated; siamese twins being the only exception.

...for some reason thinking about the cure makes me want to listen to this far superior band :P

Sorry not trying to thread jack, but we all know pink floyd is god. Why beat the dead horse?

Shagbunny 09-06-2008 12:53 AM

There's no better band than Pink Floyd, however honorable mentions to the great Led Zeppelin, The Who and the Stones.. the British make the best music. I'm also a big fan of David Bowie.

To damn dependant on the listener. If judged by anything other than preference then they loose really. Can not just work out "better" by itself.

onlytease 09-06-2008 01:09 AM

no the floyd rock in all categories :)

campimp 09-06-2008 01:18 AM

best studio band ever i would agree

Phish?. How old are you?. In your 20s?.
Pink Floyd was amazing live. Genesis had the best light shows.. Both bands know exactly how to play to the crowd and get the crowd into the gig.

King Adam 09-06-2008 06:24 AM

I'd agree that Floyd is the best ever.

But the Dead and Zepplin are close behind with The Doors on their tail.

SuzzyQ 09-06-2008 06:27 AM

My husband said Pink Floyd and Genesis live were great on 'shrooms!

The fact that you completely missed my point shows your lack of understanding of the the english language.

Owen Pierce 09-06-2008 06:37 AM

I got to see Roger Waters with his hired band, play the entire Dark Side of the Moon album at Coachella this year... the show was AMAZING!
Especially since I stayed in the center media area the whole show, while all the other photogs were kicked out :) Standing right next to Sean Penn and some other celebs... who I forget for some reason.
The floating pig and the flying remote controlled plane circling over the crowd ROCKED! Then a HUGE fireworks show that was launched from behind the stage, but completely engulfed it and lit up the crowd like crazy.
Also some pyrotechnics on the stage during the last song or two. so nice :)

Pictures are on my event site... last 4 pages of this gallery

I can't post links yet :)

Led Zeppling is amazing too!! But I think there are a bit different.. but they much have some HOT groupies! lol

Techie Media 09-06-2008 12:05 PM

I had the privilege of seeing floyd live back in the mid 80's and all I can say is the stage show was fricken Incredible. The lights were simply amazing. Wow, I'm getting old...:pimp
