Is FULL HD a sales argument YET? What's your opinion?

Hi,
well, we started our first site with full hd (1920x1080) videos just a few weeks ago - additionally "HD Ready" (1280x720) Videos and Low Quality Videos (640x360) - do you think surfers are looking for full hd yet?

For me it'd be an argument to join the site - on the other hand - if someone doesn't have a display with full hd resolution it makes it no better than every other site offering normal hd :(

Site converts well at the moment, but that doesn't really mean something yet, as it's a new site and new site's mostly convert quite well ^^

Looking forward to you opinions :thumbsup

By the way, site is Mistress-Katja.com :pimp

Greetings,
Daniel

Well, I think the short answer is yes - it adds value to your content. The long answer is that it depends on whether the content is really desirable in the first place. HD makes good content even better. But shitty content in HD is still just shitty content.

I work with high definition video all the time, and I find that 1920 x 1080 is just too damn big for any purpose really, with the huge file sizes and awkward gigantic viewing screen on most monitors. Surfers can usually enjoy a full monitor screen viewing experience with 1280 x 720 frame sizes. That size has become somewhat of a standard for the largest resolution video for most programs that I and others film for as far as downloadable clips for the members. Of course the exact bitrate varies and original quality as filmed and finally as encoded varies a great deal. Those phrases "Full HD" and "HD Ready" you are using aren't really understood universally so I don't think they they add anything really in my opinion. I think mentioning "High Definition" and then showcasing the quality of the video that you do have on the tour is the way to go.

Many of my IRL friends watchs ONLY porn in full HD. So yes! :D

The question is if the additional value makes the members stay longer or if more people join. For a big boobs site, I'd say it's great since it makes you stand out of the crowd, tough competition. For fetish/niche sites like yours, I doubt it necessary at the moment.

Long term it's certainly a good idea, since HD quality is the only thing tubes will probably never offer since it would cost them too much.

What about a poll in your members area? People love polls!

What Jim Gunn said. Only thing I'll add is that 1280x720 IS an HD frame size. Don't confuse a surfer with a hardon with "HD Ready". And I totally agree with him - 1920x1080 is way too big. I'd never encode or post one.

Right now 1280x720 is probably the largest you should offer. The quality of 1280x720 fullscreen is pretty awesome when encoded right. We offer 480p and 720p both streaming only options, using h264 codec, streamed via cdn on an rtmpe encrypted stream. 1280x720 plays back great for me. I edit 1920x1080 all day long, and its not something worth the bandwidth, however 1280x720 must be encoded right, or you may as well stick to widescreen Dv. :2 cents:

720p I think is really what surfers want now a days, if you don't have 720p, you are behind or very soon will be... 1080 is probably an overkill now a days, but it's just a matter of time before surfers start demanding it, if you have the resources you might as well encode it at 1080, you will have to do that anyway in the near future... :2 cents:

I say yes it is

HD has best sales in industry

kmanrox 09-05-2008 10:36 PM

i'm totally speculating, but i'd imagine there'd be a tremendous market for ppl wanting to d/l and burn full HD they can watch at home too? alongside normal near-HD formats which are easier viewed on computers.. then you've covered 2 markets...
