Do you get pissed when...

You get an email from some sponsor that is the automated password retrieval, when you did not initiate it.

You know your helpless to find anything out really. Just sucks.

klaze 09-05-2008 02:45 PM

I do that to people to fuck with them. makes them all paranoid..

smutnut 09-05-2008 04:23 PM

Actually I get much more pissed off when the sponsor doesn't reply back to one of my emails. Getting any automated email tells me he's at least slightly in touch

I think you missed it.

This is one of the emails you get when you typically hit the "I forgot my username or password" link on their site. Though the problem is you have not even visited that sponsor that day or recently.

I.E. it is someone who tried to access your account.

Aussie Rebel 09-05-2008 04:43 PM

I got one awhile ago with someone trying to log into a board I haven't been to for years.

Dear Aussie Rebel,

Your account on **************** has been locked because someone has tried to log into the account with the wrong password more than 5 times. You will be able to attempt to log in again in another 15 minutes.

The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 212.143.129.5

GigoloShawn 09-05-2008 04:59 PM

To circumvent these attempts, ours also responds with the remote IP address of the requesting host.

I said it reported the IP; I didn't say that it was psychic or had a list of Tor servers of which it can decline access. It's a NATS built-in, and just getting it to do this was an exercise in annoyance, since that data's not actually available from the hard-coded no-you-may-not-edit-it default skin templates.

If someone has your email address already, however, you're already fucked; if they've logged in and changed you from a wire or a check to ePassporte, or some international wire; our accounting department follows up before the next payment period for anything which appears odd.

Would you feel better if we locked it so you had to contact an affiliate manager by telephone to reset your password? That would generate at least twice as many complaints.

fatfoo 09-05-2008 06:25 PM

indeed.............

I am just saying it is a general annoyance. The proxy thing was nothing against what you did. Email I got also listed the IP of the user which was a proxy.

I wasn't trying to come off that I was offering some great service, either. It's just an IP address. I'm genuinely curious if you'd prefer to have the password email system locked and be asked to contact your affiliate manager to have it reset.

I'd love to do something more secure, but being that we only have an email address (and banking information) on file - I fear it'd be both nearly impossible to do a 'Enter the amount of your last payment for verification' sort of system.

There is really not much more that can be done.

Well I do like how some credit places give you so many chances before they do lock you and require a phone call. Yet besides the 4-5 chances they give you before a lock. You have like 2 attempts at a security question that you set yourself (random one out of like 5 or more questions you preset answers to). If you can answer the security question it will then send an email to the address on file.

I also think it should require several steps to change an email address no matter what.

I get more pissed whem they don't respond after numerous attempts and emails

I do not deal with sponsors who I can not get a hold of if I need to. Though rarely do I need to talk with a sponsor. Never need much really. Just make sure the checks are sent is all.

Though I have zero clue why a sponsor would ignore affiliates. That just seems fucking stupid. I have seen enough damn affiliate bases that have thousands of affiliates not doing a damn fucking thing at all, yet people will ignore those who are doing something?

Fuck that would just be very stupid.
