Question to the self-employed...

would you consider taking an offline mainstream job if it paid the same amount as you currently earn running your online biz?

GrouchyAdmin 09-04-2008 02:49 PM

They accepted your application at Best Buy, huh?

Go for it!

theharvman 09-04-2008 02:51 PM

Make money any way you can!

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh now that's funny!

klaze 09-04-2008 02:53 PM

If i could get a job working with custom cars.. Yes..

But I dunno what i'd do outside of online..

I really gotta find something to do tho cause i'm going crazy..

candyflip 09-04-2008 02:56 PM

It would depend on the job, but for me to leave the house to work...I'd want to make at least a little bit more than I do with my own projects.

Jens Van Assterdam 09-04-2008 02:56 PM

Tell me one good reason to do so?
Think about all the benefits you have being self employed... you work, when and where you want when ever you want as long as your income stream doesn´t break up.
Sure you might have some rough times for a couple of weeks or sometimes even month, but after rain comes usually sun and its always like that.
The only positive benefits an offline job could give you is the socialising part. Beeing self employed, sitting at home all day, smoking pot and spamming gfy turns you into a total moron.
Thats why iam trying to change my locations as often as possible, so you can make contacts to "normal" people and get friends all over the world. Id recommend it :winkwink:

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 09-04-2008 02:56 PM

NO. There is no way a mainstream job would pay me to sit on my ass like I do. They would have to be cool with loud noise from time to time as I play my guitar alot during the day and sometimes late till night depending on my orders.

THe Mainstream company would have to tolorate me working when I want to or when I feel the need to.

OH yeah I would have to be allowed to surf porn alot as well. They can monitor it if they want. I would also require some money upfront as a hiring bonus as it would remove out of my "Semi" retired state where I basically love my chill time.

Nicky 09-04-2008 02:56 PM

Depends if i think I have the time for it and don't mind the work. Especially if it means I can keep the online income at the same time

FreeHugeMovies 09-04-2008 02:57 PM

I would if your mainstream job is a lot of home office type work / lead generation.

LOL I'm actually sitting with my electric Ibanez at my lap typing ^^

GrouchyAdmin 09-04-2008 02:58 PM

Oddly, it doesn't change that much for me. Either way, I'm sitting on my ass, staring at a screen and scratching my ass.

andrej_NDC 09-04-2008 02:59 PM

Who would pay me the same offline for working few hours a week lying on a bed?

yes i would. its hard to escape work when you're self employed, i would love to have a set salary and be able to slack, have weekends completely free, paid sick days, real lunch breaks, and to be able to be around other people on a regularly that aren't friends.

fatfoo 09-04-2008 04:18 PM

I'd say no

BlackCrayon 09-04-2008 04:35 PM

Depends on the job. I can't stand the idea of working for so much per hour anymore. It just seems so bleak, no chance of ever having a big payday.

Rochard 09-04-2008 05:45 PM

If they would match what I'm currently making, I'd consider it.

But I wouldn't manage employees.... I'm tired of stupid people who make up every excuse not to show up to the office.

And I doubt anyone in mainstream would be able to match what I'm making.

Eriic 09-04-2008 06:06 PM

Thanks to my in laws I don't work, but live better than any of you, I bet.....

My wife keeps track of the money, but it was about $635,000.00 per year for the last seven years.....

RP Fade 09-04-2008 06:10 PM

I dont think I could ever work for 'the man' or have a 9-5 gig.

nico-t 09-05-2008 06:30 AM

i dont think im cut out for a normal job, definately not anymore, i already hated it when i worked at a company for college several years ago. I didnt do much, but starting at 8am and just being there til 5pm every day was horrible enough, i really really hated that lifestyle.
my brother has such a job for like 5 years or so, when i talk to him the hate is an up going curve it gets worse and worse

the problem with me is that im extremely lazy, i thought i was over that but lately the lazyness is kicking in hard, im doing next to nothing now, a steady job wil definately fix that just because you HAVE to get out of bed and be at work. But its a huge paradox since that is also exactly the thing that is the absolute worst of a steady job.

i just need to slap myself awake and get alot more motivated instead of doing nothing all day.... because no way in hell i want to work for a boss.

It depends what the job was and how bad I needed the steady income.. Overall I'd say no, to the "same" money it would have to be more.

I do get bored of working from home but it's still better than having a job..

pornguy 09-05-2008 06:42 AM

I had a job like that and they were pretty cool about most things. But...

xmas13 09-05-2008 06:44 AM

What kind of mainstream offline job? Gigolo for older women in Palm Beach and Monaco? :)

Zorgman 09-05-2008 07:15 AM

No way. I don't need another King Shit to be pushing me around. :D

One in a lifetime is enough. :)

I work, I sleep, I play some golf. It's all good.

fuzebox 09-05-2008 07:24 AM

I wouldn't even take a mainstream job that paid double.

Sosa 09-05-2008 07:25 AM

It would depend on the job of course. Would have to do something with sports more then likely and that isn't going to happen where I'm at right now.

Sid70 09-05-2008 07:25 AM

University degree anyone?

gornyhuy 09-05-2008 07:45 AM

Hell no. I'm totally spoiled now.

1200mics 09-05-2008 08:57 AM

Personally, even if it paid 2x I wouldn't. I worked full time for a company a while ago and I remember the headaches of having to try and take off work for a vacation or to do something.

Now, if I feel the urge to go somewhere, I can still operate business with my laptop and a phone. it would have to be a significant amount of money for me to work full time for a company... unless it was a company that tested out new girls and their bj skills :1orglaugh
