Like $1 billion dollars is 0.0000000000000000000000000000001% of your federal budget.

Pathetic.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 09-03-2008 02:19 PM

I think the Democrats would do the same.

See...
When America's see's a people that want a fair system and a system that works with the world, America tends to support them. It's not a Democrat thing nor a Republican thing.

Where is the evidence that the US economy is in the shitter? Q2 growth in the US was 3.3%.

The media has been pimping a recession for years now and still there hasn't been one. All the Bush haters are just hoping for one so they can have another reason to hate him. Kind of like how Michael Moore and DNC Chairman Don Fowler were giddy at the thought of hurricane Gustav hitting New Orleans just because it would interrupt the Republican convention.

Guess we'll find out by then end of this week when unemployment, retail and other figures come in. I know for a fact that the housing market is down because my wife is in the real estate biz and she's familiar with the markets. Just in one of her areas, there is a surplus of homes for sale and 38% of those homes for sale are either a short sale or foreclosure.

But it's definitely not as bad as the early 90's imo..

IllTestYourGirls 09-03-2008 07:02 PM

Not as bad as the early 90s but we have not hit the bottom yet

Yes but if you compare it to the 90's, you had 10 bank failures a week, not 10 bank failures a year. It's still bad yes, but it's also relative.

deniska 09-03-2008 08:31 PM

I hope everyone knows that this money is going to be pocketed by the corrupt Georgian officials. The Georgian people will not benefit from this aid in any way.

Serious or joke? :1orglaugh

You need to read some Thomas Sowell. There hasn't be any recession just we aren't growing as fast. Most European countries would still kill for our growth rate. 1billion to Georgia is strategic $ to keep from total chaos and mob boss rule of the former Eastern European Countries.

Here is some data that came in today..

NEW YORK - Wall Street tumbled Thursday on more disappointing economic news - retailers posted sluggish back-to-school sales reports and the government said the number of workers seeking unemployment benefits spiked last week. Meanwhile, the Labor Department said new applications for unemployment insurance rose by 15,000 from the previous week. That broadly missed expectations for a fourth-straight week of declines. Investors, already highly anxious about the overall state of the economy, were further unsettled when many of the nation's retailers said shoppers curtailed spending last month due to higher gas and food prices. Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer, beat Wall Street projections because of its discounts.

It's an investment and it will give way more $$ back .. All this area around Georgia got huge tension now... They are on the path to choose between Russia or US so I would double it and give same money to Ukraine, to keep them under control....

How big were the banks then compared to the major banks now?

that I dunno. Im not sure if it's the size of the banks that matters more in these cases vs the number of bank failures. At least people saw this one coming for a while and warning signs were everywhere. Let's hope it stops at wamu but I fear it wont :Oh crap
