McCain could have a real problem

If the average American held the same values as the people on GFY. Lucky for him, they don't.

The Duck 09-01-2008 12:21 PM

Lucky indeed.

dodger21 09-01-2008 12:23 PM

McCain is gonna do fine. The average GFYer is a fucking idiot.

Brujah 09-01-2008 12:23 PM

No, not most of them. What you have is a bunch of people who find it funny that a holier-than-thou type who wants to push her values on everyone else (pro-life, abstinence-only in schools, creationism in schools, anti-contraceptives, etc...) turns out to be a bit flawed herself. She's the type of person who would make the big deal out of these things. That makes it humorous and hypocritical.

If you really don't get that, it's because you only see what you want to see.

It's true. These positions are widely held across America (whether one likes it or not):

Anti-abortion
Pro- Iraq War
Pro-Creationist

Bush was elected twice.

Drake 09-01-2008 02:17 PM

Additionally, every poll I've seen suggests that a majority of Americans are religious or believe in God. That blends in with the whole Creationism and anti-abortion stances.

Really? You are not ready to admit that there is a large portion of the populace that is anti-abortion, believes in Creationism or supports the action in Iraq?

I think there is no question that there is a huge portion of the populace on either side of these issues.

tony286 09-01-2008 02:18 PM

Ill help you
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/...-warpoll_N.htm 60 percent are against iraq
http://freerepublic.info/focus/f-news/2024509/posts 71 are anti abortion
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/...in657083.shtml more lean to creationism I find this one very upsetting.
you got 2 out of three.

It was a ridiculous and vague statement. The opposite could be said and be true if that is how you are defining it. A majority would make more sense.

There you have it. It's not even 50/50. The majority is still in favor of these views.

If those figures are accurate, they confirm that the views on GFY aren't at all representative. I've seen polls like this before and was surprised, too. Sad really. But no amount of wishing it away changes it.

Actually, that would be 3/3 since 40% is still a significant portion of the populace.

not to mention it's a relatively recent poll.. it says a lot that 40% still support the Iraq war after five years.

Huh? You quoted stats that show the majority is not in favour of these views... Can someone give a non-American a rundown on what's going on here?

Ideas floating around:
US populace is better than general GFY lowlife
US populace is as stupid as GFY
Pornographers would sell their mother for a [unique] hit
Pornographers are intelligent as the rest of the 'mainstream' people

I'm confused.... :Oh crap

In any case - here's some clarification on those stats that were pimped....

Of those 60% "...include those who want U.S. troops out immediately and others, like Tease, who argue America has an obligation to improve Iraq's stability before going."
That is not the same as 60% are against Iraq....

the # of real anti-abortion people == # of pro-life people. The uncertainty rests in those that can't make up there minds (54%) saying no abortion is wrong, but ok in certain circustances (add me to that 54% miscreants) ... And these stats are unchanged since 3 years (from that article).

I'm sorry but I do not at all find this disturbing - I find it shows that 87% of Americans either
1) don't know what creationism means
2) are actually allowed to think for themselves and not be spoon fed.

Of course, these kinds of polls rarely show their poll #s nor their funding source, so take statistical data with a pinch of salt....

borked 09-01-2008 03:04 PM

I concede I misread that article - "Just 13 percent say that God was not involved. But most would not substitute the teaching of creationism for the teaching of evolution in public schools.

confused me - add me to the GFY miscreants list. TY.

I went by Tony's numbers. Didn't bother to confirm them. Whichever way you want to look at it, there are many Americans who believe in Creationism, are anti-abortionist, and in favor of the war. Many are the opposite, and many are in the middle.

pornguy 09-01-2008 03:32 PM
