Anderson Cooper just said some lady was outside walking her dog.

DaddyHalbucks 09-01-2008 07:40 AM

DateDoc 09-01-2008 07:41 AM

On a side note - oil prices are down today.

LadyMischief 09-01-2008 07:41 AM

Didn't have to hold as the surge was greater than the height of the levee.

scary stuff!

PervertInPueblaMexico 09-01-2008 08:22 AM

I am so glad I am in Mexico... I was blissfully ignorant that there was even a storm going on. I remember living in Florida, DAYS before the storm hit that cone of probability was all you saw... Then the storm... Then weeks of footage of sad stories of the victims... Looks like you guys have your TV programming cut out for you for the next couple of weeks.

Despite being downgraded to a Category Two storm, Gustav snapped power cables and choked storm drains in New Orleans.
A sea surge was feared and water was clearing levees, but they were expected to hold, according to officials.
"We are cautiously optimistic... we won't see catastrophic wall failure," said Col Jeff Bedey, head of the unit responsible for flood defences.

Water coming over the top of levees is a long way from a levee breaking....

Iron Fist 09-01-2008 10:47 AM

Seems like they dodged the bullet..

Spunky 09-01-2008 10:50 AM

Mother nature is pissed off :(

Sly 09-01-2008 10:55 AM

This is going to lead to a new HBO series... When the Levee Broke: Again.

Shagbunny 09-01-2008 10:57 AM

You'd think spending 10 BILLION a month on Iraq, they could've built much much better levees to protect that awesome city.

RyuLion 09-01-2008 11:17 AM

I am sorry, do you know of any wall that will hold water back that is higher than it is?
