What's the best way to organize recycling?
Multiple garbage cans?
I have one can right now for soda cans and plastic bottles. Lately I have taken notice to all of the paper and cardboard I throw away, thought I could start recycling that as well. Do I set up another can for paper and another can for cardboard? Or can they be combined? And what about things like cardboard milk and juice containers? |
I just throw all my shit out the car window. I really can't help in this thread at all. :(

Separate cans -
Personally I use: 1 for plastic bottles that I get cash back on. 1 for glass bottles that I get cash back on. 1 for aluminum cans that I get cash back on. 1 for all plastics/metals/paper/glass that I recycle. 1 for compost. 1 for trash. Paper and cardboard can go in same container with the caveat that if its shredded it should be placed in a separate bag and thrown away or just composted. Most places that recycle can not handle shredded paper. If the container is foil or plastic lined then again it is trash usually. I only presort aluminum, plastics, and glass before hand as the place that pays the most also pays more if its presorted. Yes I have a bunch of cans, but they are all small anyways and just get dumped into larger ones outside. |

We are fortunate enough here to have public recycling. Everybody is provided with two bins - one for recyclables and one for regular waste.

Just throw it all in the garbage man, they sort through that shit at the plant anyways.
What I find hilarious - everyone sorts their paper, plastics and cardboard here into separate bins. Then the truck comes up and dumps them all into the same truck with no separations.. hahaha.. |

The city bins equal 2, one for trash and one for recycle. The other sort shit is for stuff I take elsewhere to get cash back on or throw in one of our compost systems (compost-er or worm farm). Technically I could just have a trash, recycle, and compost can if I was not returning glass, aluminum, and plastic bottles. Also if I wanted a few cents less per pound I could turn the 3 extra cans into 1 can leaving me with 4. I could also get cash for paper and cardboard but you need a fuckload to make it worthwhile so I just let most of it go to the cities recycle center. Also our city has 3 types of trucks. One trash, one blue waste (plastic, aluminum, tin, glass, etc.), and one green waste (compost able crap). |
