SACRAMENTO, Calif. ? In a decision that will affect every video-sharing site on the Internet, a U.S. District Court Judge ruled that just because a tube site encodes videos doesn't mean they control those videos.

The case involves the mainstream video-sharing site Veoh.com, which used to include an adults-only area. They got into legal trouble back in 2006 when the adult entertainment company IO Group, parent company of gay producer Titan Media, found some of their content on Veoh.

wonder where all this will lead to ?

This is how things will start to evolve...
soon, traditional paysite tours will be replaced with more tube-like interfaces...it's already happening a little bit and will continue.

Doesn't change anything. The main issue was whether automatically encoding user uploads removes the protections of the DMCA for the site owner.

Read that before, can only agree with AIREK that DMCA has to be rewritten..

I can't see anything close to the original meaning of a copyright in all this.

i wonder where Paul's point stands in all of this tube stuff... if youtube has the control to remove things that look like adult content in minutes, why cant they remove things that look like copyrighted stuff in minutes (ie. anything that is a clip from a TV show or movie)

The logic on this is easy, detecting large amounts of flesh tone across movies, that is equal across 1000's of movies is much easier than trying to detect 10,000's of unique features about millions of movies that can be cut, cropped, blurry, and not copyrighted based on several factors.
