What kind of mattress do you own?

I have to go buy a new mattress...

Hard, soft, firm, ??? I need a hard one..i tested out 15 different beds today..Sealy, Serta, posturpedic...there are so many!!!

I can't make a decision......HELP!:helpme

NickPapageorgio 08-28-2008 08:00 AM

Custom made California King. It's about medium I guess. Has posturpedic pads sewn into both sides. It's like 16 inches thick from top to bottom. Waste of money for me. I'm an insomniac lol.

robfantasy 08-28-2008 08:09 AM

tempurpedic celebrity

RayVega 08-28-2008 08:11 AM

Do yourself a favor and don't be afraid to spend money on a good mattress. You will be surprised of the difference a few thousand bucks can make on your life.

Fucksakes 08-28-2008 08:14 AM

surprize there are not replies yet with.. you need to test out some more.. come try out mine.

Luca_Triple 10 08-28-2008 08:19 AM

definitely one of the best decisions i've ever made... not cheap, but these mattresses are amazing! nothing like that tempurpedic crap i used to have

GigoloShawn 08-28-2008 08:19 AM

I have an incredibly firm Sealy. It's like sleeping on a slightly-cushy brick. Oddly, that's the way I like it; if it's too comfortable, I feel like I got the shit beat out of me over the evening.

The Duck 08-28-2008 08:22 AM

I have something, dont even know.

Jman 08-28-2008 08:31 AM

I had it custom made, xtra hard as I have a bad back.

bashbug 08-28-2008 08:33 AM

I sleep on my bumper pool table

Mahem 08-28-2008 08:35 AM

I have a Temperpedic....and they suck, they hold in body heat and are just terrible
get the Westin Heavenly Beds....they sell them at Nordstroms

dready 08-28-2008 08:42 AM

I have memory foam. I went to Foamite (http://www.foamite.com/). They're in Vaughn, but they have a showroom on Danforth. They are one of the largest foam importers in Canada (over 40 types to choose from) and will custom make anything you want. Compared to a Tempurpedic, mine is double the quality and 30% less money.

I love the memory foam, but some people don't. It does get a little warm in the summer, but not so much that I mind it. It would probably suck in the South. You might also want to consider Latex foam. Latex makes for an awesome mattress too. They are extremely comfortable.

When choosing firmness with a foam bed (especially memory foam), you need to select it based on your body weight. You want it to properly relieve pressure as equally as possible.

I would take foam over any spring mattress any day. Spring mattresses just don't make any logical sense at all.

TGVinny 08-28-2008 08:47 AM

I have a Sealy Posturepedic, firm springs, with a double pillowtop.

Paco, of Large Cash. 08-28-2008 08:49 AM

Extra EXTRA firm (foam) futon mattress for me!

None of that box-spring & matching mattress stuff for me. I have yet to find one that is truly firm, let alone extra firm!

Tom_PM 08-28-2008 08:50 AM

I need a new bed too. I'd consider a sleepnumber type to accomodate different firmness needs.

Sucks to hear those tempurpedics hold in heat.. they're off the list.

Reak AGV 08-28-2008 08:52 AM

What ever the short-time rooms and shady overnight hotels have to offer ;) :)

Deej 08-28-2008 08:53 AM

i layed on a sealy posturpedic once... My friend spent a couple grande on it and a nice oak frame - fuck the oak - but that bed was heaven - firm yet soft - truly one that you can jump up and down on - without bounce - and the person laying beside your jumping wont even feel it - unless theres a blanket on the bed too

Truly heaven!

I know what you are going through, I had the same issue a few months ago.

If you are looking for a hard one like me, take a look at Simmons Beauty Rest "Oakville" (I found it at Sleep Country). It has independent coil system, doesn't disturb your bed mate, thin pillow top for cozy cushion because the mattress is really firm.

It is the best mattress I ever owned and I had changed 4 mattresses in an 18 month period until I got this one and couldn't be happier.

I always wonder about the sleep number beds...I didn't test one of those out yet...

my friend has a tempurpedic and it's heaven but yeah that whole heat thing sucks..I sweat like a mofo at night...:Oh crap

I'm NOT doing spring! thanks for the advice!

My girl used to work for Serta so she's kinda helping me but you really don't know unless you've slept in one!!

candyflip 08-28-2008 09:16 AM

We have a Sleep Number and I will never go without one. We upgraded from one of the original Select Comfort beds about a year or so ago. There isn't a big difference, aside from the bigger size we got.

The Radisson Hotel chain has them in some of their rooms, if you want to spend the night on one. They also give you a pretty long time to test them in home if you want to do that too.

Do yourself a favor and go check out the Sleep Number, you can change it up when you want.

They've got a varied selection, so they're not always as pricey as people think.

dready 08-28-2008 09:28 AM

If you're not doing spring, seriously consider latex foam. They are expensive but damn comfy.

greg1 08-28-2008 09:32 AM

i would like to buy hard. may be you can read about advantage of its and about advantage to the health of them

Penthouse Tony 08-28-2008 09:32 AM

I have a firm Sealy it's only about a year old and I'm happy with it. I noticed that mattresses go by different model names in different stores so it's hard to keep track of what you've tried.

actually...I did sleep pretty well when I came for my visit...hmm I'm gonna go back to the store and check it out..

and YES! They change up the names of the mattresses for each mattress chain so that they feel special..wtf? White labelled mattresses?? lmao!

Did u know that mattresses are the #1 marked up products??

emac 08-28-2008 09:40 AM

Yeah each store carries the same mattress with a different name. I think they don't want you to be able to shop around.

Luscious Media 08-28-2008 09:55 AM

We went to Sleepy's. Spent an hour or so laying on different beds. When we finally found the one we wanted it was a no brainer. It just...fit. Everyone is different so brand doesn't matter. Put on your jammies and hit the stores. Look at the price tag AFTER you decide which one you like best.

Ours cost a pretty penny but was well worth it. I figure, people will spend 20-30k on a car without blinking. How much time do you spend in a car? Now, how much time do you spend in your bed? 2-5k on a decent bed is just a wise investment.

My back problems are gone, my shoulders don't ache, I have more energy when I wake. Best money I ever spent. Honestly.

Pornopat 08-28-2008 11:34 AM

I always get my matrasses for free here on the island.
Cant say to much about it though. Its a hush hush thing....

G-Rotica 08-28-2008 11:39 AM

I've had a latex foam mattress going on 10 years now. Still the most comfortable thing I've ever slept on. Hell it came with a 30 year warranty. I also have a pillow made out of the stuff. Got it at the same time. And my large mellon hasn't destroyed it yet.

I get a family and friends discount but FREE??? :upsidedow

starpimps 08-28-2008 11:46 AM

I spent 2000 on the cal-king Hainsworth
best thing i have bought in years. Id pay up to 5000 for a mattress if i could find a better one, a good nights sleep is worth a lot to me.

I'd love to make a recommendation.. but I'd have to do some research on what you're currently sleeping on to really understand your needs :)

Elli 08-28-2008 12:08 PM

I bought a new mattress a few months ago and am LOVING it. The previous one I had was way too soft and got dents and dips right away. :( My new one is a Serta one... not sure the name. But if you go to Sleep Country, they have a list of the beds that the hotels like Westin and Mariott use. My bed is the one they use the most. :) Woot woot!
