road trip: Michigan to Denver, salt lake, Yellowstone?
My wife and I are packing up our lil civic hybrid tonight and heading west to the mountains. Rocky Mountain national park is certainly planned and Yellowstone is looking a bit too cold for camping right now but I might get her talked into it...
She just started her third trimester so obviously the beer tour near Denver is off the table :( Also she doesn't want to do all that much HIKING. Queen size air mattress and cooler are just about ready to go. Anybody have some MUST hit locations for this time of year? We don't really have a set timeframe or destination but I was planning on doing some type of a U likely going to RMNP maybe going clear to salt lake then up to yellowstone area and then maybe hitting mall of america on the way back through. We went there last year and she loved it... |
Might as well hit Glacier

Take a detour to Atlanta, and show up at an industry show. :winkwink:

You have to see Red Rocks. It's a concert venue carved directly out of these gigantic red rock formations sticking out of the ground. It's definitely the most amazing concert venue on the planet.
The exit for it is right off I70 near Morrison/470. |
If you're heading towards Yellowstone from Utah, stop in a little town called Lander, Wyoming and visit Sinks Canyon. It's gorgeous this time of the year and the scenery is so amazing, you can't really capture it with a camera. There are some places where there is a lot of hiking and other places where there is no hiking at all.

If you are coming down I-90 in South Dakota you can stop in the Black Hills and visit Deadwood, Keystone, Mount Rushmore etc.
