Are audio banners really effective?
 

When I happen to mouse over and activate a sound banner on this board, my swift reaction is to mute my audio until it finishes going off. This leaves me with absolutely zero interest in clicking the banner, and sometimes I even close the window, negating any chance of ever seeing the ad.

Is it just me?

I do see some really good banners in the rotation though, and I do click some. But if it has audio, chances are unless it's something really planned out, the little sound blurb is going to work against it.

I realize people are trying to get attention to their ads, and gfy isn't here to consult advertisers.

So are audio banners really effective? Do they make profit?

Do they make people click on them? Or are people just trying to brand their programs with some sort of goofy sound byte?

good audio banner could be effective ... but what we have here are very amateur ones that the creator believe is so cool ....

Yes, but if I had to tell you which banners on this site had audio I would be at a loss.

The only audio banner that I recall on this board was the farting cat(?), I think it was a farting cat anyhow. :1orglaugh

and I couldn't even tell you the program... if they were still around and using a farting cat logo or something I might though.... now that's branding. :1orglaugh

I adblocked ads.gofuckyourself.com a long, long time ago. GFY doesn't get to show me any ads until they learn to tell advertisers no.

I have NEVER clicked a single banner with sound here on GFY.

Also, the most annoying ones are on my shit lst, which means, I'll never send these sponsors traffic.

And if this thread helps prevent even just one audio banner sound going off in the future, it was effective.
