rendering WMV files to MPEG2 w/ premiere pro cs3/vista 64bit vs. premiere pro 1.5/xp
 

picked up a new box with a phenom quadcore chip, vista 64 bit + 6 gigs ram,

render time for 1.5 hours of WMV to MPEG2 = ~24 hours OUCH!

i uninstalled vista 64 bit, installed xp home 32 bit + premiere pro 1.5 which only recognizes 3.2 gigs ram.

total render time for same video = 1.5 hours.

what gives?

vista sucks.. that's what gives... not news.. everyone already knew that.

Looks like most of memory space went to vista

that's not an educated answer, but thanks anyway.

Try using Super Media

A new OS or 64bit ints does not magically make hardware faster. RAM is not your bottleneck in this case.

The software is only 32 bit. Would be my guess and has its own ram limits.
