How do you guys feel about the US losing the Olympics to China??
Is this being talked over there in the US?
What's the repercussion of losing the #1 place to China among americans? |
I did not even know the Olympics were ours to lose, or that they now belonged to China.
What are you talking about? |

That's what I was referring to. |
China is #1 this year? wow big surprise... NOT!
Fuck China. |
That has "conspiracy" written all over it...
|
There's a few of us out there who look at the Olympics as a global event and use it as an opportunity to put away our nationalistic viewpoints and concentrate on a global perspective.
There are also a few of us out there who are just fucking happy it's over so we don't have to hear any more about China on CNN, Discovery Channel, fucking Animal Planet, BBC, yadi, yadi, yadi. |
They're not talking about it at all, probably because they ( American media ) all twisted the stats to where we didn't lose.. instead of the most golds being the stat used to determine who 'won' the olympics, everyone in the US is using total medal count. Personally though, I couldn't care less - China has 5 times as many people as us and they manufacture their athletes from the time they're 3 years old.

A pic or two might help this thread out:winkwink:

You really think anyone here gives a flying fuck how many gold medals we got or that we are losing sleep over it? |
I think Americans are more obese than ever... Not a big surprise.

USA didn't lose .. or win ...
It is a real sport competition to showcase the accomplishments of athletes from everywhere in the world .... Get into the Olympics spirit .... :2 cents: |

Interesting take on the US from a foreign perspective - I've always looked at the events, not at medal totals - with a population of 1.3 billion one might expect the Chinese medal count to be about 100%...
Is anyone in Brazil talking about the volleyball loss to the US? I am sure Brazil was disappointed not to win gold, but does that make the country of Brazil a loser? What's really amazing is the number of world records set at this Olympics... |
I'm still in shock that tranza can type more than 3 words in a post.
WOW! I mean seriously...fucking WOW. I had no idea. |

No wonder this little bitch is badmouthing the US. He's upset that even Canada got more medals than Brazil. :1orglaugh
That would give me an inferiority complex too. |
|
There have always been 2 ways of looking at it from what I can remember. # of gold AND # of total medals.
I'm more of the mindframe that # of gold is the "winner", but I don't really care. Both ways seem like valid ways of looking at it. |

US huge defict is pretty much backed mainly by Chinese funds. If they decided to collect these loans, the US would be bankrupt. Then again they would never do that, since they need your market to sell all their crap goods. |

That's pretty much what the US invests in a week. It's really amazing that brazilian athletes can even get a few medals. :2 cents: |

It's ALWAYS been about the amount of gold medals. Not "total" medal. |

If you divide the medals by the population, you'd ALWAYS lose. But this time you guys really lost by a metrics that YOU created. And now, you guys are trying to change the metric! LOL! :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh |
I discredit all of China's golds in women's gymnastics. So basically, they won golds in diving, mens gymnastics, and table tennis. For a country with the biggest population in the world, I thought they'd win more.

Nice to see you turned off your post bot btw. It was getting incredibly annoying. |
Who cares as long as Canada wins gold in Hockey in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics!!!

I don't care if we won any metals or any golds, or even went. Not because it's in China, but because it's just another game, like the kids playing football in the street yesterday. It doesn't make a single difference about anything other than to the people doing it, which is good thing for them and them alone.
Overall people care about every sport way to damn much. People going nuts, as if life ends to just watch the stupid sport and if it doesn't go as planed the day is ruined. That is called being legally insane. You people are crazy! :) |

What are you babbling about? |
Wow, Brazil has 185 million people and only came away with 15 medals (3 gold)
And mutt started 5 threads bagging on Canada for sucking. :D |
The more power to them, congrants!

I thought it was about individual atheletes
|
Good for China... we had some stars like Phelps and those volleyball chicks, basketball teams... it's all good.
Like most, I just enjoyed watching some good competition. I could give a shit who had more gold. |
China put forty BILLION dollars into not only putting on these games but towards insuring that they win the most medals.
That's more money into their sports programs than all other countries combined and then multiplied a few times. And China's system of athlete selection is vastly different than that of the US, UK, Canada, Aussies etc. Theirs is engineered to advance only "gifted" athletes, and they obviously have a massive population on which to draw from. With that kind of funding and determination to dominate they are going to be tough to beat from here on out. China is the new Russia. |

Athletes down here in Brazil are true heroes. Do you REALLY want to compare your country to a country like Brazil? Wow, I guess it's even worse than I thought. |

WOW! So much for this being about them showing us what they are capable of. Nope! Instead it's the pathetic battle for first---national pride is for fascists and nazis!
So, genius, exactly which formula did you use to derive your conclusion? Better yet, what variables did you include: - population - total number of athletes - total number of events - number of athletes/event - total dollars spent on training etc It's the same flawed thinking as those that believe Canada lost to the US. Here's something basic enough that even you can understand: the importance difference in population makes! Example: Canada to US = 10 times less!!! Yes, that IS important since is clearly tells us the US has a much a deeper (gene/athlete) pool. By the time Canada has acquired one hopeful, the US has already been training 10! Now, add to that the variables which help increase or decrease the advantage: - total $ spent on training - total $ spent on aids (swim suits, additional training facilities and the many others which not all can afford) So, before opening your yap to say whom lost and won, take in to consideration all the variables. Or are you saying you already took in to consideration the fact that China has around 1 billion more people, and their sports concentration camps (training regimes) are virtually second to none? An intelligent person would not say "" ... blah blah they lost ... " or " ... blah blah they won ...". But for your sake: the US (300+mil) only beat Canada (30mil) if the US medal count is more than ten times that of Canada! China (1.3bil) only beat US (300+mil) if their medal count is four times greater. I realize that the above is something which truly fair people can only understand. The rest refuse because it does not help them be better than the rest! |
