Webmasters why do you do it ?

Why on earth do webmasters pay for links then 3 months down the line the websites are gone. They have been like this for a couple of weeks now So what do I do leave the links up or take them down. A couple are showing 404 pages the other is showing a parked page. What a waste of money, I can kinda understand the parked page but to pay for long term links then the website just vanishes is just beyound me. Why waste money on sites if you aint gonna do it for the long haul. Webmasters are a breed all of thier own ..lol

they may sell off the site then not give a shit what happens to the link

johnuno11 08-25-2008 06:49 AM

Cause they don't think ahead of time.

Yeah guess you are right, But what bugs me about this is, should I remove the links or just leave them up until the paid time runs out

gornyhuy 08-25-2008 07:38 AM

add a "no 404s allowed" clause to your terms and conditions. If they 404 for more than 24 hours drop them. Bad links only hurt your seo anyway.

maybe their hosting took a crap, and they are fixing it? who knows... but for your liability I'd leave them up unless its a serious issue.

its called start-up business money... get it while you can, a large % of them fail.

Best advice.

That's the reason why I NEVER buy these lifetime links.

Because like all the rest of the internet, the bulk is made out of people with no skills and no ability, figuring themselves grandiose businessmen. Think Kramerica Industries.

Sooner than later they discover the realities of the business, the stiffness of the competition, and how much they miss to bring themselves merely to par, and just give up.

halfpint 08-25-2008 07:57 AM

Thanks for the advice :) The no 404s clause sounds like a good idea. That never even entered my head when I sold the links. I never just take links down anyway without at least trying to contact the webmaster first. I only ever did it once by mistake :Oh crap .. me and the webmaster in question sorted it out so he is a happy bunny now. But its kinda "dont know what to do thing" when the site disapears with no way to contact the owner you have no idea if they are having server issues, moving the site to a new server, installing a new script or having problems paying for the hosting or whatever

Yep. They think after buying links, that's when the dough starts rolling in.

VicD 08-25-2008 08:37 AM

Shortterm thinking will never make you decent money

halfpint 08-25-2008 08:48 AM

Strange how some people come into the adult or mainstream biz spend a large amount of money on scripts/designers, traffic, advertising, then just give up and couldent give a stuff about the money they have lost..they must have money to throw away I guess, wish I could just piss money away in the wind..

Reak AGV 08-25-2008 10:40 AM

A lot of people have NO clue what they are doing, they just give up or get lazy.

V_RocKs 08-25-2008 11:01 AM

I create my own links.

Anyone that pays for them is a completely incompetent douche bag, loser.
