Okay, what's up with all of these plane crashes?

I look at the headlines today and I see two plane crashes with multiple deaths. There was the big one the other day. And there have been a couple more over the past week or so.

Have plane crashes been going through the roof or are we just hearing a lot more about it suddenly?

brassmonkey 08-24-2008 05:26 PM

really it happens in groups serial killers drunk driving car crashes bus wrecks shark attacks school shootings etc....

After Shock Media 08-24-2008 05:30 PM

Stat wise they are still very damn rare. Like I would guess without checking one would have better odds getting hit by lightning than being in a plane crash, hell I would even guess you would have better odds getting hit twice actually.

Just every so often some must crash. Shit just happens and you hear of a few during one month or week, then hear of nothing for a long time.

brassmonkey 08-24-2008 05:36 PM

only rare because their less planes than cars depends once u do the ratios

cherrylula 08-24-2008 05:46 PM

I see plane crashes in the news every week it seems. I don't think they stop crashing for long. :1orglaugh

Eh?
Are you aware how many flights there are per day (24/7) in the world and then how many people are in those planes? Number wise entire populations move around each day via plane.

They do not just pull out the stats based on, well there are less planes than cars so walla there will be less plane crashes than car crashes.

It's those fucking MD80's. I was on one about a month ago and almost shit my pants. After I printed out my return ticket and noticed I'd be on one on the return trip as well I almost rescheduled. Upon that second flight the shitty MD80 did not disappoint. We had the most uncomfortable landing that I've ever experienced...even the flight attendant closed her eyes and appeared to be praying.

I think that was just an American Airlines thing? The three that I noticed this week were all from foreign countries.

more maintenance people being laid off is my guess

abadfish 08-24-2008 10:41 PM

It's the MEDIA!!! They love it when a lot of people die at once and any plane crash is news no matter how insignificant it is.

They do report on things in spurts. This week it will be plane crashes, next week it will be school shootings, the next kidnapped kids.

That stuff all happens daily, but they get reported in groups.

v4 media 08-25-2008 01:43 AM

Like famous people deaths they always come in 3's

polish_aristocrat 08-25-2008 01:49 AM

Obviously each plane crash is independent on each other. (pilot suicides could be influenced by previous suicides, but not engine failures etc)

It's just pure statistics.

Just like the same number in the casino coming suddenly more often for a while.

Yep... I blame Media as well.

VicD 08-25-2008 02:39 AM

I'am going to fly in 5 days....

MediaManiac 08-25-2008 02:52 AM

yep the media is the one to blame..

nekrom 08-25-2008 03:33 AM

The latest plan crash was on the banned list, so not flying on that airline is a no brainier. Same as Garuda, you couldn't pay me to fly on their planes.

LOL are you trying to tell us plane crashes happen on a daily basis? Believe me, if a boeing 747 crashes u will hear from it or any big air carriers.

As a representative of the Jewish community I'd like to take this moment to state that we are proud to have sunk the twin towers, and we'd be glad to do it again if you were to politely set 'em up so we can knock 'em down one more time. Thank you.

Yeah right. Such a retarded thing to say.

Trax 08-25-2008 05:00 AM

i only fly airlines that have enough money to maintain their machines... no almost insolvent crap airlines
so no delta, or AA in the US... no US air because they suck in general

SpicyM 08-25-2008 05:43 AM

is there any website where I can check stats of plane crashes divided by air companies??

XMaster 08-25-2008 05:44 AM

more traffic = more crashes

MediaGuy 08-25-2008 05:56 AM

I called this one a few months ago. Trust me, and only fly airlines that have raised their rates.

The price of oil nearly doubled. Airlines cut back on maintenance and restrict any overtime requirements. Planes crash. Simple.

:D

I always find it funny when people compare scary yet unlikely things (like plane crashes, shark attacks etc) with lightning strikes. I mean, how likely is it to be struck by lightning anyway? Is it really that common? If so, that sucks...

kowalsky 08-25-2008 06:55 AM

There are many shitty planes flying around. These new low cost companies have reduced services, the cost of the maintenance is reduced a lot, and the planes rented are the ones that none serius company want to use.

Miguel T 08-25-2008 07:01 AM

Something is strange...

Not true. And this was probably the dumbest statement I've ever read on GFY.
