Today's World of FREE!!! This is why there is more and more "Tube" sites.....
You have always showed content for FREE since day one of Adult Ecommerce....our galleries, tgp's, mgp's, sample pages, blogs, etc, etc.....well everything is coming together...compacting everything lol.....just make 1 tube site for your entire company! Whatever you sell.....seems like these days you gotta give something away for FREE!!!!!
MYSPACE gave free space for your own webpage....so it killed hosting business and dropped but they are still in business right ;-), YOUTUBE gave more FREE Space for your videos, CRAIGSLIST gave FREE listing as classifieds! , heck even APPLE almost gave FREE Bad Ass IPHONE at a measly $200 ( their cost in licenses, making the phone etc... ) Now us in the " 200 Billion dollar a year ADULT Industry " ( the non adult people think we are ), are giving away FREE Video by building tube sites? hmmmmmm i see..... If you missed reading this issue of wired... its a good one! http://www.wired.com/wired/issue/16-03 |

Illegal tube sites arent hurting niche sites sales much, but general sites with "plain porn" is almost imposible to sell anymore.. at least thats our experience
What is hurting this business the most right now is 1) The american eonomy 2) The big shady companies with pre-checked cross sales on their join forms placed below the submit button... the only reason for this is to steal money - and every time it happens we loose two potential customers for life.. the customer himself and the guy he shares his experience with.. every single $100 promo, with very very few exceptions, is financed by scamming the customer this way.. by supporting these promos you're the very reason sales are getting fucked up more and more every day |
Although nothing is really free...

Free drove the first dot com bubble burst and will drive the second one. Remember back when Yahoo was the hottest site on the net and every VC firm on the planet couldn't wait to throw money at start-up websites that were giving away free stuff and were supported only by advertising? What did they learn? They learned that advertising didn't make them enough money to get by on and most of those sites are either now gone or are shadows of their former selves. Eventually advertising isn't enough when you give away a ton of free stuff and your costs are huge.
I won't be shocked when it starts happening again. Youtube doesn't make a profit and now has over 1.5 billion dollars in ongoing lawsuits against it. If they lose those suits I won't be surprised to see the site either be shut down or changed so drastically that it fades away. Myspace is making money, but it had around 500 million in revenue and only about 10 million in profit. That is still some nice change, but with 490 million in annual costs they are walking the thin line. All they need is a few things to go wrong and they are suddenly bleeding money. The list goes on and on. TV studios are now giving away their shows on their sites so that they can make something out of them and try to compete with the torrents and pirates. I won't be at all surprised to hear of major companies either shutting down or greatly downsizing sites because they can't make money off them and I think in adult many of the tubes will be among them. It is only a matter of time until the surfer gets bored with the cam and dating ads on the site and doesn't click them anymore. When that happens they are in trouble because you can't really sell a site membership to people you are giving hours of free porn movies to. Porn tubes will be around for a long time, but I would imagine that they, like the survivors of the first dot com bust will have to change. They will have to give away less or restrict their content in some way. If you run a restaurant and you give away a free dinner to everyone that walks in the building hoping that a few will pay for a Pepsi and a dessert, you won't be around for very long. Just my 2 cents. |

Kane - great post.
I see it the same way - here's a scenario (although yours is more eloquent): For everyone wanting to open up an illegal tube site - hosting longass videos, infringing on copyright and plan on surviving on ad sales, here's a wake-up call. Besides the legal issues that 'may' come from it in the years to come here's some other things to think of. You may have some success at the beginning but eventually, those ad-buyers will reach a plateau with monetizing that type of traffic and will have to limit themselves on the ones giving them the best ROI. They simply won't be able to afford to fund all the sites by buying ad space on each and everyone of them. That will leave you with a huge bandwidth bill and little income unless you've done things right. This is not mainstream where your pool of potential buyers is practically limitless. The main buyers of the traffic right now will reach a point where your users are already their clients or your clients just won't buy. Eventually, you'll run into this other issue (worst case scenario) - if producers/sponsors can't monetize on their content, they will produce less - leaving you with limited 'new' content to offer to your surfers and eventually, costing you to loss your market share of traffic, unless, of course, you can afford to produce stuff yourself. Will you want to invest that kind of money if you can't monetize the content in other channels of distribution - eventually, the tables turn and you'll be fucked like you fuck others - your content will be ripped and on every other tube site without you making money on it. Tough place to be. Make wise decisions from the get-go - be innovative and build your sites where the main goal is to make money - for yourself and the provider of the content. |
the people who pay for it will always pay for it

Real Pornographers charge customers.
Everyone else seems to give it away for free. I goto say there are not alot of pornographers these days:disgust Imagine how much content would be worth if when viewed people actually paid. Fantasy land I know... |
