How far is too far to drive to a meeting?

I got this guy coming in from the east coast to visit family and he will be about 3 hours away from me, he really wants to have a meeting but I'm like damn a 6 hour round trip for a meeting. This is a pretty big deal but damn. What should I do?

sortie 08-22-2008 10:56 AM

3 hours is max.

gornyhuy 08-22-2008 10:59 AM

If its more than about 90 minutes, I push hard for a teleconference, or I fly or take a train.

TheDoc 08-22-2008 11:00 AM

6 hours round trip isn't bad, 3 hours each way is short enough to not fly. Turn on the tunes and enjoy the drive. I grew up in Texas, everything in 90 miles away :)

I have driven LA to Vegas and back just for a meeting.

That's a tough one..

it'd be pretty hard for someone to suggest I drive 3 hours to meet them for a meeting.

They better have a lot to talk about and it better be leading to a lot of cash in the very near future.

I'd suggest he meets you half way so yer only doing a 1.5 hour drive..

I find a lot of people are idiots.. and they make dumb plans like asking me to drive 3 hours to come meet them for a meeting for no reason at all..

tony286 08-22-2008 11:08 AM

how much money can it put in your pocket? Is it worth it to you?

TheDoc 08-22-2008 11:11 AM

I think 90% of the people that have posted in this thread often read/post more than 6 hours a day. So really, everyone has more than enough time to give up 8 hours of GFY :)

If it's a pretty good financial relationship, why not... a day of your time to keep a client/partner happy is not all that bad. Particularly if you are making good money out of the relationship.

More than 2 hours ONLY if the meeting point is a great place or, if the one you are going to meet with, it´s a sexy fucking bitch.

Bama 08-22-2008 11:23 AM

The longest I've gone for a meeting was Seattle to New York

8 hours fly time there - arrived 10 P.M - had meeting next morning and it lasted 90 minutes and got back on the plane 2 hours later and flew 8 hours home.

sumphatpimp 08-22-2008 12:22 PM

it was his idea. if he is serious, let him do the traveling.
what the hell is he going to tell you that he can't tell you on the phone?
maybe he is just lonely?

sltr 08-22-2008 12:24 PM

face 2 face seals the deals. if you want to be absolutley sure you close the deal, take the meeting.

tranza 08-22-2008 12:27 PM

If this is a one time kind of thing, and he really is pushing for it, I'd go.

PornMogul 08-22-2008 12:28 PM

I also live in SD. The furthest I would drive is to LA and back.

It depends on how much money can be made and how important the person is for me.. I will drive 20 hours to meet with someone for bizz if the drive meansmaking a shit load of money

pornguy 08-22-2008 12:31 PM

Meet half way.

Find something else to do in the area that makes the trip worthwhile even if the meeting flops.

k0nr4d 08-22-2008 12:35 PM

just drive 3 times faster and its a 1 hour trip each way

Yeah, but that's not a good example because intergalactic properties state that when traveling from one hell hole to another time actually stands still.

Violetta 08-22-2008 02:01 PM

if it is profitable, then there is no limit!

Supz 08-22-2008 02:03 PM

depends what the monetary possibilities are

fatfoo 08-22-2008 02:52 PM
