Drama - Traffic Brokers.

I've always said traffic borkers are pretty much a scam, a la work from home assembling paper trees.

I'm not saying that out of the blue, but because, every season or so, I run a little experiment. I've just ran it recently, and I'm going to share the results with you. I'm not going to mention names, because to be honest I've tried them all, and they all show up the same sort of results, so it really makes no difference which one you use, or what color scheme the website has.

Phase I - buy proxy/no cookie/no referer traffic - We do this to get a general feel of the quality of shitty traffic they got.

Quote:

1.56 Pages/Visit
00:00:20 Avg. Time on Site
98.26% % New Visits
89.22% Bounce Rate
Phase II - buy cheap nichemix traffic, filtered for "good countries" tho, so US CA etc - We do this to get a general feel of the quality of traffic coming from the various websites in the network.

Quote:

Pages/Visit 1.41
Avg. Time on Site 00:00:05
% New Visits 99.44%
Bounce Rate 95.01%
Now we make a list of the top 30 best performing websites, and it comes out as follows :
Quote:

Pages Time
20.00 00:01:17
11.00 00:00:20
10.00 00:00:27
8.00 00:00:38

3.00 00:01:54
3.00 00:00:29
3.00 00:01:29
2.11 00:00:06
Phase III - We buy high quality US/UK/CA/AU/etc traffic, restricted to the above domains only. Guess how they perform ? Well...

Quote:

Pages/Visit 1.49
Avg. Time on Site 00:00:11
% New Visits 96.48%
Bounce Rate 88.73%
Improvement ? Not really, just, the broker sending fewer hits, his crap has less effect on the overall traffic quality of my site.

Let's look at how good the SAME 20 sites we selected in the previous phase did.

Pages Time
1.00 00:00:00
1.03 00:00:01
1.00 00:00:00

1.03 00:00:04
So apparently, one day has a lot of fucking impact on the quality of a site's traffic, huh. And this happens simultaneously to 30 out of 30 different sites. Uh-huh.

Ftr, the phases are conducted in consecutive days at the same time of day, so time of day's not having an impact.

Feel free to chip in the defense of the brotherhood/business model/cheap source of bothits, but don't try telling me it's traffic, cause it ain't.

For comparison, here are the numbers for my site from the week before this lil experiment

Quote:

Pages/Visit 13.31
Avg. Time on Site 00:01:27
% New Visits 92.25%
Bounce Rate 51.57%
O, and one more point. cca 50k hits of borker "traffic" = 2 free signups, 0 sales. Whoopdedoo I'm very impressed, they got the bots to where they can input email addies and confirm them.

On the other hand, I am willing to bet you that nobody here makes more dollars per unique than I do. Yea, that's right, dollars.

Cheers.

Ok, I'll play the Devil's Adbrocate.

What tracking software are you using? There are discrepancies, usually, between what you plebians use and what we use. You need to take that into account on your cognitive path toward discovering you're completely and utterly wrong.

Also, did your site have a good landing page? Something these assumed human visitors would enjoy? Probably not, because you've got a shitty website... because you're stupid. You need to spend a few G's on a top-level designer and then try to buy traffic again.

We all know that it's about qualifying traffic according to niche. You bought fucking nichemix traffic? What the fuck is wrong with you stupid bitch? You need to target that shit! Try and buy some more but get the good stuff that's targeted toward your site's overall content.

How did I do?

I'm comparing like things with like things, mr plebeian. If I measure the moon once, and then measure it again, it matters not what I've measured it with, unless you're willing to go out on the limb that the instrument has in the meanwhile (ie the next day) completelly and utterly changed.

Again, mr retard, like things with like things. What hasn't changed hasn't bearing.

you obviously bought the best traffic on the internet

12clicks 08-22-2008 11:25 AM

if traffic brokering had a value, we'd still be doing it.

you'll notice, we stopped in about the year 2000

Yep.

I don't mind spending a hundred or so every once in a while on measuring broker traffic quality tho, on the theory that I need the info more than I need the hundred. Ymmv.

I've posted about it this time because J Q Noob might not know how to run a measurement, or not have the tools, or the hundred. Makes this the first informative, noob friendly thread of the year or some shit I guess.
