Question about Bittorrent and network admins monitoring you!

I was wondering if network admins can see what you are accessing at work or @ college. I'm currently in a dorm room and they have GFY blocked! I am accessing it through a proxy server but was wondering if they can monitor what I'm writing or that im @ gfy.com ?

I'm using hidemyass.com to access it can they see the websites I visit through this? I noticed that bittorrent works but its capped @ 40k can they see the names of the files I download ect ect?

if its not encrypted they can see everything.

When I studied at Georgia Tech I always heard stories about people being thrown out of college because they were using torrent sites on campus/dorm internet.

What s/he said, but with the proviso that network admin's are people too - and probably don't give two shits about what you do online any more than your mailman cares about constantly delivering plain, unmarked brown packages to your house.
