Hey Juicy, I've been using Vista now for a few days and discovered it's not compatible with one of the software programs I use. Please hit me up if you find out more about the switch to XP, I'd be very interested in that. Thanks!

HI Juicyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

ISPrime_dimi 08-20-2008 07:23 AM

According to an article from computerworld (google "vista downgrade" - first link), what you're saying is very plausible. Why not just quit the MS bs and go with OSx?

WiredGuy 08-20-2008 07:25 AM

Yes, you can call MS and they'll void your Vista License and give you an XP license. You do need to have an OEM copy of XP though, they won't ship you a new CD for XP.

hehe tbh i am afraid of a Mac lolllllllllll i think if just bought one and used it i would get used to it.. i think primary thing is the new OS and not being familiar with it and such and have to relearn and all that shit that is putting me off

but i think one of these days ill inadvertantly smash a pc out of frustration then just get one lol

As far as I know, m$ allows that. But I don't call it "downgrade", because actually it's an upgrade :)

Quagmire 08-20-2008 07:58 AM

As long as you have Vista Premium you can 'downgrade' to XP Pro. By downgrade it means you have to wipe and install, but your CD Key will work in a copy of XP Pro.

I have Vista Business, and the ONLY thing I had an issue with was WSFTP. Got the new drivers from the site and now no issues.

Photoshop
Dreamweaver
Fireworks
Flash
Office 2003
and much more with no issues.

I'm going to sound like an ad, but the mac is very friendly :)
I myself was on XP and refused to switch... but a good buddy of mine put me on a macbook and made sure I didn't access my pc... I learned it in a month...

btw, you can use parallels desktop to emulate XP on a mac, seamlessly --- so you'll still be able to run your XP programs on OSx.

tony286 08-20-2008 08:08 AM

call microsoft, they should help you.

People who get a mac and then run emulators are fools.

I switched from wsftp to Filezilla and have never looked back.

Also running Vista and so far haven't had much issue with any programs but then again I don't use that many programs either.

tiger 08-20-2008 09:03 AM

I just don't see the point in "upgrading".

My XP runs great, does what I want, pretty much crash free. What new "feature" does vista have thats worth risking a microsoft upgrade?

Manowar 08-20-2008 09:36 AM

Vista needs a hell of a lot more patches to be as good as XP

buzzy 08-20-2008 09:41 AM

I thought you tried ubuntu a while ago Juicy, how was it? I'm thinking of getting it.

First thing you should do is run the Vista Upgrade advisor.

That will give you an idea of what exactly is causing your issue.

Was it working fine and then something was installed? More details needed.
