smartftp is no longer going to be free.

What's the next best?

I've been using FireFTP plugin for Firefox and it works awesome :thumbsup

I noticed that yesterday... looks like it's time to buy it. SmartFTP has been good to me for many years.

It made me upgrade but then said it would still be usable without the license with just some stupid ass warning. I do not know for sure as I paid before.

3D FTP.
Loved SmartFTP until the last few "updates" which made things worse every time. Found 3D FTP but it's not free after 30 days but the multithreading is so worth it.

I use filezilla because is very good and free. In the past I used cuteFTP because itt was at that time easy for me to modify html files.

And very far far away in the past I used total commander

Filezilla is quite technically proficient, but it has the ugliest interface I've seen since some of the first software designed for Windows 95.

I'm surprised no one else here is using FireFTP with Firefox, it is free and works perfectly, and it's handy to get to right in your browser menu :2 cents:

Yeah I have recently switch to WinSCP since I do all the uploads overnight from an old Win2K box and filezilla is XP or higher.

WinSCP is actually partly based on Filezilla code so why Filezilla couldnt be made win2k compatible i dont know

I usualy used flash fxp which is commercial but now i using more and more winsp which have support for sftp so that means i can control all domains on servers at once and i dont need to login on each ftp account as i need to do on flashfxp.Beside that winscp have auto login to ssh which saves a lot of time.

I switched to this from cuteftp several months ago and couldn't be happier.

It's free, cuteftp was something I paid for, and the free coreftp is way way way better.

I use a PAID version of cuteFTP V.02 !!!

I use an older free version of CuteFTP and the patch to kill that damn nag screen!

I also use an ancient version of WS-FTP 95. It never crashes unlike more complex ftp software!

aceftp is freeware and good.

i have used smartftp for years, but version 3 sucked and not going to pay for that. using filezilla for mac and pc now

I have a paid version of Cute FTP. I feel that it was worth the cost.

Made the switch from smartftp to filezilla here.

As Hotrow mentioned above, smart was getting slower and slower with each update. I'm glad they made me move over to filezilla, it's much faster than smartftp eventually turned out to be.
