Tropic Thunder "Retard" Controversy?
 

I saw this movie today and it is damn fucking hilarious. Ben Stiller was my least favorite part of the movie, but come on... Was it really that offensive? The dialogue between Downey and Stiller was spot on and funny as hell. When I heard people were actually protesting the movie, I thought it was about Downey playing a black guy. I had no clue it was about the use of the word "retard" along with Stiller's portrayal. I still don't see the huge deal in it.

I didn't think it was a big deal when they showed the 10 seconds scene from "Simple Jack."

It kind of crossed some lines when it became integral to the plot of the movie(in the heroin camp). So I was thinking that all of those people crying about the mentally challenged needed to shut the fuck up. After I seeing the movie, I see their point. It was a little too much, even for a callous bastard like me.

People who feel that they deserve to not be offended, and that trumps my freedom of speech are fucking retarded.

It seemed to me that the movie was making fun of actors playing mentally challenged characters, not the actually mentally challenged themselves. But people are sensitive about that stuff.

I am amazed that this movie has gotten such great reviews. I thought it was funny but come on. Jack Black is a joke, Stiller is not that funny. Downey Jr. and Cruise were the funniest parts and even Cruise got annoying after a while. The retarded stuff wasnt funny at all but I dont think it was offensive. I still think Superbad was 10 times better than this movie. My :2 cents:

I can see how some would be offended but there is pretty much a group somewhere that will be offended by anything put out these days. Price ya pay I suppose.

Yeah, I agree 100%, people just LOOK for things to complain about. I think that the most classic example of that is a story I heard a year or so ago about women that complained about a furniture manufactuer (those buy and build kits) that only showed drawings of men building the furniture in the instructions, never any women. Who the fuck would even think to complain about something like that, ha ha.

I need to find one of the theaters that a bunch of retards are actively protesting outside of. Now THAT would be hilarious.
