Pop? Soda? Coke? Where you're from, what do YOU call it?
Thats pretty funny! At the same time...who the hell has this kind of time on their hands to try and make a map like this?!
I call it soda/coke. I've almost been in many fights over people calling it pop. I can't stand it.
Was just talking with my wife about that not long ago.

"would you like your pop in a sack?" nearly died laughing the first time I heard that when I was in the south.
Miami girl here... I call it a soda in general, but when ordering of course, I specify: Diet Coke or a Coke
That map is awesome....hahaha
ok so why would "coke" be on there?
its pop or soda we say pop you dont want a 7up and say "i would like a 7up coke" |
WOW someone actually did a survey on this and made a map LOL
I call it pop, have all my life. |
Just pop ;)
It's a "pop" cuz a "soda" is short for club soda..
I get some weird looks when I order a vodka soda cran in the US...lol |
Isn't it strange the name of this survey calls them "Soft Drinks" but yet it's not listed.

My fiance has learned to change what she calls it cause on our second date she called it pop and I almost left the date right there. I don't know why but its like nails on a chalk board. |
I call it what it is, a Coke, a Pepsi, a Dr Pepper. I ask, do you have Pepsi or Coke products, and/or Dr. Pepper? If I gave it a name I would call it Soda Pop, Soda to me is for mixed drinks, and Pop is candy.
I grew in Texas, it says Coke is what we called it. But I don't ever remember asking for a Coke, and then being asked Coke, Pepsi, Dr Peper, ect. You would get a Coke if you asked for a Coke, simply because it's the largest drank soda pop in the area. |
Map seems pretty accurate. I grew up in California, so I call it "soda", but I live in Ohio now, and everyone else calls it "pop".
COKE AND PEPSI ARE BRANDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They also have numerous brands attached to them..I dont' understand why americans have such a difficult time with things like that..
like the dummy's that come up to Canada and ask for a "MOLSON"!! IT"S a BRAND! Molson makes 20 different brands of beer..ugh!! so if u ask for a coke..you get a coke..what happens when you ask for a sprite? do u have to say coke-sprite?? wtf? |

Grew up outside of Buffalo, it's pop.
We mostly call it soda
soda ....... map is right to me
Pop.
But nobody says to a waitress "I'll have a pop", because then she'd look at you funny and ask "What kind?" Instead we just order the kind we want. "I'll have a coke" means you want a coke specifically. We don't do the "what kind" rigamarole. Unless the customer asks "What kind of pop do you have?" Pop is said mainly in reference to all soft drinks, like when in someone else's house and you ask "got any pop in the fridge?" or "Want me to pick up some pop at the store?" or "Hey, remember to buy pop for the brats, that'll shut them up for a while" that kind of thing. :D |
soda here
120.000 respondants?
Its pop for me or Soda Pop. Down here in Tn, they call it a Coke, or my fav "Imma get me ahh cold drank" Or "Hey there mam could ya get me a cold drank?"
Coke for me.
soda here
that map seems spot on......its pop here.
All I know is if you come to Canada and ask for a coke no one is going to be asking you "what kind"... dude, yer gettin' a coke.
Soda I can understand, but referring to all pop as "coke"... not going to fly where I'm from, and I'm rather happy about that. :D |
