illegal magazine sharing

Interesting article on a new site that has copies of magazines online:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080815/...sonpb 3Ws0NUE

seems the pulishers are having a little trouble with it since it is based outside the us. It reminds me of all the tube sites with porn.

I'm sure the magazine publishers will get this shut down so it will be interesting to see how they do it and if the same ideas can be used with tube sites that post all stolen content.

klaze 08-15-2008 03:29 PM

I've been noticing more and more magazines ending up on rapidshare/torrent sites.. .

Manowar 08-15-2008 03:31 PM

damn, a very nifty site

that thing will take off if it doesnt get shut the fuck down ASAP

marketsmart 08-15-2008 03:32 PM

the magazine industry is really hurting...

NoWhErE 08-15-2008 03:58 PM

I dont get it. Companies do all the legwork of creating content. People just blatantly steal it. And no one can do anything about it?

If this were happening to the mob, they would track down the guy regardless of what country he was and "retire" him.

Whats the point of trying to create anything original if someone else is going to steal and bank off your hard work?

You could say that about any form of business, anywhere.

Malicious Biz 08-15-2008 04:52 PM

MAGAZINETUBE.COM is already taken. :(

haha..

woj 08-15-2008 07:57 PM

one minor difference here is that profit for most magazines come from ads, not from $20/year that they charge the customers... the $20/year probably barely covers the printing/distribution costs... it doesn't exactly make it right to distribute them for free online, but comparison to tube sites is a bit off....

CheeseFrog 08-15-2008 09:14 PM

http://www.Mygazines.com is down for me

Ther isn't a point and when no new content is created maybe theives will get it. Yeah the retards loves sites like this until they have to close down because no new magazines are made because sites like this make then unprofitable. Unfotuneatley we will in welfare attitude world where everything is expected to be given to you for free.

and ads are sold based on distribution.

Distribution is based on the number of magasines sold.

If people stop buying the mags cause they can get them for free on the web, the distribution goes down, thus their ad revenue goes down.

Same affect as on our industry... everyone loses money.

me too,the magazine was created for the shithouse.lol

pamon 08-15-2008 10:34 PM

signed up for it. will see... computer mags and economist are rampant on torrent sites already.

pamon 08-15-2008 10:37 PM

so it's got regular and adult mags and then lets you view the mags online in a flash format... interesting... some massive scanning going on for that though. and no $$ being made since it's a free site? i give it 3 mos

I've been thinking an ipod touch would be a cheaper route in the long run. Since Time, Newsweek, and Entertainment Weekly are all online legally for free anyway. I've had a subscription to Time for over 10 years. EW for 5+. Just don't know if it's browser/speed is better then the super crappy PSP surfing experience.

NinjaSteve 08-15-2008 10:50 PM

I think reading a physical magazine is better than being strapped to your PC 24/7

...but if magazine is free, the distribution actually goes up... the paper version distribution may go down, but overall the distribution probably goes up...so it actually might be good for magazines to get distributed for free online...

Supz 08-16-2008 12:50 AM

Site seems to be down right now

pamon 08-16-2008 02:28 AM

has gone up/down due to article i think... interesting... would rather just download the mags as pdf's from the site and read them vs flash but hey.. give 'em time..:)
