AFF geotargetting madness! WTF is going on here?
 

Let's start with a simple story. Today I was surfing the net and saw a geotargetted AFF advertisement. One of those ones that list pictures an the "girl's" location. I am canadian, and thought the geotargetting rarely hits the nail on the head, usually hits a nearby city. not today. The banner showed as Owensboro Kentucky. Now this may seem minor and insignificant, however, 42301 is the zipcode I use for signing up to online accounts that require a US zipcode, when I'm looking for access. 42301 is Owensboro Kentucky's zipcode. I remember only days ago using this zipcode, and now I cannot remember where exactly, I roam the internet like a wild goat (Though I am actively tracking back to find out where I last used this zip). Anyhow I find this to be more than just a coincidence. Whereever it was that I used this zip (and I do intend on tracking it down) has somehow affected the way AFF geotargetted ads are displayed on my laptop. I doubled checked on my desktop to see if things wer ein order there and indeed they were. So what the fuck is going on? i thought geotargetted ads worked off your IP? This appears to have been executed with an embeddable cookie. Any ideas GFY?

This seriously baffles me. I have no doubt in my mind that I've been embedded with a cookie for AFF, but it's effect on the geotargetted location of AFF advertisements served to my computer is interesting to say the least. It's fucking killing me trying to figure out where I used that zipcode to figure out what's going on. Fuck I've signed up for hundreds of accounts in the last couple weeks. Mainly mainstream stuff., but I remember clearly having to use a my trusty US zipcode for something just days ago.

I hav't cleared my cookies in hopes that i can target the cookie which has been embedded. Anyone know exactly what I should be looking for?

When you fill in those forms depending on your settings that stuff is saved. AutoComplete, etc..

Fucking badass if they have started using a method that digs up that info.

wherever the hell i signed up, i can't find it now. i'm sure i'll figure it out though. it was definitely a cookie doing the dirty work. i decided to clear my cookies in firefox and sure enough i'm back to being geotargeted for local cities. i still want to know wtf is up with that. because it definitely is connected to a signup form. i've signed up for dozens and dozens of accounts over the past little while though, so i really have no clue at the moment. crazy shit either way. i don't know it its working on aff's end, or if someone managed to find a way to embed a cookie onto you with your location info. weird either way. i'd like to know what happened. but it seems nobody knows or cares. maybe this thread needs some pokemons or lolcats to get attention...
