Puppy Probs

My dog is sick. She isn't a puppy anymore. She is 12 years old and her health has been starting to fail.

Today she had a bloody nose. It was crazy I came upstairs and there were pools of blood on the floor! And splatters because she kept snorting. I hysterically rushed her to the vet. They said it is usually either an infection form a tic or tumors. If it is a tumor, there won't been anything they can do. So, tonight she is at the vet on an IV.

It was a pretty rough day. She has been a wonderful dog. Anyway.. I don't usually share personal news but it was such a crazy event. That my head is still spinning.

Sorry to hear. My chocolate lab got bit in the face by a rattler a few weeks ago, we thought he was a goner, he recovered nicely though. has a ton of missing hair on his face still though. I hope your pup recovers, they are family.

stickyfingerz 08-13-2008 08:19 PM

Aww looks like my dog but with black fur. Shelby is 12 or 13 too.

Wow a rattler! That's crazy! It's funny how much a part of the family they become.

tony286 08-13-2008 08:27 PM

I hope everything works out.

She does looks like your dog!! What is she? Mine is a lab/australian shepard mix (the vet thinks)

Babaganoosh 08-13-2008 09:08 PM

Poor thing. Take her to Dr. L. at Clinton Pkwy. Animal Hospital. He's the best vet in town. If it's over his head there is a much more aggressive vet at Lakewood Animal Hospital in Lee's Summit. I've had my critters there before too. Both are AAHA accredited which means a lot to me.

Hi Anna,

I hope your dog is ok. The same thing happened to my 15 year old lab/dal last year and it was tumors so we put him down. I hope yours makes it. We now have 2 awesome MAltese pups.

As far as I know Part Lab and part Terrier of some sort. I got her at 6 weeks old from the humane society. She was supposed to be taken by someone else that had already put in paperwork, but I put paperwork anyways incase they didnt pick her up. Well turns out they didn't, and I got to take her home. After about 4 days she started having things shooting out both ends and I took her to the vet and found out she had parvo. So it was into the vet hospital she went for almost a week on IV. She was one day away from me having them put her to sleep cause think it was 70.00 per day and I was far from rich back then lol I called in to check on her ready to tell them to go ahead and put her down, and they told me she was better and I could pick her up the next day. So lucky I have her at all. Hope your doggy gets better.

Anna_Miller 08-13-2008 09:48 PM

Thanks Babaganoosh, I might take her to KState's Vet clinic if the prognosis is bad.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm afraid that might be what we have to do - I'm not ready for that!

Elli 08-13-2008 09:58 PM

Oh no! Give her a big hug from Elli! I hope it's nothing too serious.

mattz 08-13-2008 09:58 PM

Hope she's fine, hopefully it's not a tumor.

WZRogeR 08-13-2008 10:00 PM

Cute dogs :)

mynameisjim 08-13-2008 10:14 PM

Reading that story and seeing those pics got me choked up a bit.

I have a dog that looks a lot like yours but without the white accents.

I hope everything turns out OK. :)

hello,

I am sorry to hear about your dog and I hope everything turns out for the best. If your dog does end up having a tumor and your vet says theres nothing that can be done that is not always the case. My dog became ill and our vet told us she was going to die, we got 2 other opions, 1 vet agreed saying that nothing could be done and we tried another and the vet said there is always a try and we tried and our dog is happy as ever doing fine. Depending on the tumor size and where its located makes all the differnce in the world. Also the only thing is cost, if you have the money I would suggest fighting for your dog, 12-13 is still young for a dog nowadays. a lot of dogs can live to be 18-20 yrs old now.

Once again I wish you the best, and I hope you let us know what happends.

tranza 08-14-2008 07:09 AM

She doesn't look like 12 years old...I hope she gets fine soon!

Anna_Miller 08-14-2008 08:37 AM

Thanks everyone. She is home now and doing fine. She has a bunch of meds! It isn't a tic infection. In a few days I can have her x-rayed and see if they can see any tumors. The vet said it could be from liver probs or an auto-immune disease. Hopefully, it was just some crazy incident.

firecracker 08-14-2008 09:13 AM

My dog, Codo had a tumor removed from his face on his left side. So there is always hope! It is a good idea for at least 1 other opinion for treatment.

Hopefully it will be something easily remedied. Best of luck to you and her.

Kudles 08-14-2008 09:50 AM

I hope she gets better. I feel really bad. I have 2 dogs as well and when they get sick it really bears on my heart.

CDSmith 08-14-2008 09:52 AM

Here's hoping for good news for you and your dog.

:D

sniperwolf 08-14-2008 11:27 AM

tehHinjew 08-14-2008 01:01 PM

The Duck 08-14-2008 01:01 PM

hope she gets well soon!

pornguy 08-14-2008 01:03 PM

We put a dog down just over a year ago, and the other one we have is starting to show her age some . She is almost 9. I hope that she lasts a lot longer, because as it is, my son ( 3 ) barely remembers the other dog.

Good luck with her.

Anna_Miller 08-14-2008 02:01 PM

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. In a few days I can have her xrayed to see if they find anything. After that we'll see. She is on prednisone & antibiotics in the meantime.

Supz 08-14-2008 02:15 PM

very sad. hopefully everything is ok. They are like part of the family

I would be very upset if something happened to my dog

pimpD 08-14-2008 02:25 PM

It's easy to became so close to your pet. Best of luck to her and you.

Looks like she's wearing little socks

Honez 08-14-2008 02:31 PM

Anna I hope everything works out and they don't find anything bad on the xrays. It is the worst feeling in the world when your furry kids are sick and they can't tell you what's wrong. I lost my 16 year old kitty last year and I tell ya, it was like losing a child. I will keep your cute girl in my thoughts.

Keep us updated!

Oh Hone, I'm sorry to hear that. She is definately part of the family. I have lived with her longer than Bruce even!!

halfpint 08-14-2008 02:42 PM

Hope she gets better

Peaches 08-14-2008 06:24 PM

My 12 year old has been living with bone cancer for almost 3 years now. Bit by bit it's going up his spine but he's still happy, not in pain, and eats. He wears a diaper and a belly band and I pick him up a lot, lol. So even with a poor diagnosis they can do well for several more years. Here's hoping you get good news!!! :)

shekinah 08-14-2008 07:55 PM

I hope she'll be fine...

TondaB 08-14-2008 08:35 PM

Best of luck Anna! They are like family and I could not imagine loosing my pup. She is my best friend and knows more about me than anyone:)

Sarah_Jayne 08-15-2008 02:24 AM

I really hope it works out. Sometimes I can get really depressed when I have flashes of thinking about when the time comes from my pups.

madawgz 08-15-2008 02:31 AM

i hope she gets better soon

pawsregd 08-15-2008 05:16 AM
