Paypal Holding Payments

This is new. Paypal now holds payments till buyer receives goods or shipping has been confirmed. I personally like this protection but it is an inconvenience that you can't use that payment to pay for shipping. Now shipping expenses are out of pocket while you wait for the funds to be released.

PayPal and eBay are working together to make payments for eBay items even safer. Because we want both buyers and sellers to feel confident about sending and receiving payments through PayPal, we may temporarily hold payments for items sold on eBay.

Make sure to ship the item right away, so you'll have access to the funds sooner. We?ll release the hold in 21 days unless you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction subject to the hold. We may release the hold earlier if either of the following occurs:

* The buyer leaves you positive feedback on eBay.
* We confirm that the item was delivered.* We can confirm delivery if you ship the item with USPS, FedEx, or UPS and either use PayPal shipping labels or upload tracking information from the transaction details page. This applies to transactions within the United States.

Additional hold period

If you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction subject to the hold, we may hold the payment until the problem is resolved.

thats bullshit... its just a way to profit on my money by "using" it for 21 days..

i bet that even if buyer sends positive feedback, there will still be at least a few business days before funds get released...

selena 08-12-2008 07:58 PM

I ship stuff out on a near-daily basis, and have never had paypal hold funds.

Bird 08-12-2008 07:58 PM

Fuck I know...I wonder what the interest is on total they hold for those days.

def great for buyers.. i have never gotton ripped off buying on ebay, so i cant really relate to a 21 day hold and as a seller on ebay it really pisses me off...

spacedog 08-12-2008 08:12 PM

I like the idea of it as a buyer, but don't like it as a seller

moeloubani 08-12-2008 08:31 PM

still can ship boxes with rocks instead of the actual item

Belinda 08-12-2008 08:37 PM

I just sold my first item on Ebay and what a pain in the ass it is turning out to be. They want all this documentation from me then i sent it and now they are saying to re-send it and untill they get everything they are putting my account with limited access. They wanna make sure i am who i say I am and all but geez.

Sure... soon as you get neg feedback or chargeback, the moneys gone - so whats the point, besides, aren't you out of pocket for shipping until the funds clear?

Ship all the rocks you want, you'll be fucking yourself over in the process under this new scheme. :2 cents:

I didn't read that anywhere. They have a hold on mine, maybe because i am shipping to Canada and maybe it is only the US for October.

Funny story. I sold a GL2 to a guy on Ebay a couple years ago. He sends me the paypal after the auction. I ship the camera. The asshole receives it. I email him to make sure it arrived ok. He gives me this long email about how awesome the camera is. Two days later, I get a refund request from PayPal saying the asshole received the package but that the camera was damaged. So instead of even asking me, they credit the fucker back his money. Meanwhile he has my camera. After a couple more emails, the fucker says if I want the camera back, I am going to have to pay shipping. I was pissed. So I grudgingly agreed to pay $100 for overnight shipping back. The fuckhead ships me back a box of rocks. When I email EBay and complain, they say he proved he shipped the package back. I explain to them what he actually shipped back, they suggested I file a lawsuit in my local court. Now how the fuck am I supposed to serve this asshole when he lives in California?

Turns out later, this guy had done this several times to other vid cam owners under different names. EBay refused to do anything and PayPal kept saying it was an EBay issue. So fuck them both.

The reigns are tightening... don't forget that ebay Australia was the test bed for forcing everyone to use Paypal to pay for items (apart from some cash on delivery exceptions such as cars). That change has been blocked by the govt for the moment.

Zorgman 08-12-2008 11:18 PM

I started getting paypal payments get put on hold this week. Seems not by the buyer, but by paypal themselves or their system. The funds are "on hold" untill this matter is cleared. But there is no "matter", it's just another way to control us.

Babaganoosh 08-12-2008 11:21 PM

Personally I am glad to see this. This will help with slow shippers. I've had to email people repeatedly to get an item that I won and paid for actually shipped. Now there is some incentive to get that shit in the mail ASAP.

Marcus Aurelius 08-12-2008 11:23 PM

I would agree to this policy as long as shipping fees are separated and not withheld. Keep the sale price, but release the shipping fees so the item can be shipped without coming out of pocket for 21 days. The costs of shipping being what it is, this could actually hurt ebay and you'll see more side deals being made on items. Less buy it nows, transaction fees, etc.

plsureking 08-12-2008 11:31 PM

is this a mainstream board now?

AdultMovies.bz 08-13-2008 02:38 AM

that sucks ass... and here in Australia you can't even sell on ebay without using paypal, monopoly much?
