a PS3...

Sly 08-11-2008 05:40 PM

I've been looking into putting together a media computer... I noticed that they also have Blue Ray for Computers. Was thinking about adding one... though I would really like to hear from others if they do offer a noticeable difference in quality.

Sly 08-11-2008 05:41 PM

And do they offer superior sound or is it primarily picture?

I bought a PS3 just for the blueray. It definitely kicks ass. Then you can use it to D/L movies or rent them from Sony Online as well.

PS3, it's hook to the net and they always issue new firmware upgrades so you have all the lastest blu ray options.

It's the same prices at other sony blu-ray players.

Just don't buy any games, besides Guitar Hero :)

samsung is good but they have a habit of not supporting their players, they come out with 2 new ones then stop support the firmware, happened to me, a year old and its not good any more. I have 2 blue-rays, a new samsung and replaced the older samsung with a sony, I like the samsung better but not their attempt to make people buy new players.

bluray players have new firmware updates almost weekly

It's really the best option out there right now. Just don't buy any games for it and you will be OK.

If you really must stay away from the PS3, then wait for LG's new BD300, which I think is coming out next month. It will be able to stream movies directly from Netflix if you have a subscription. (only in upconverted standard def, but that is still pretty cool)

I'm sure the PS3 will be able to do this shortly too. It has already been announced as an upcoming feature for the xbox 360.

I've been looking at them too and have decided on this one

The deal breaker for me on the PS3 was it wouldn't work with a universal remote

There is a workaround for that. Not perfect, but most people will be happy with it.

The PS3 is pretty much half the price and does everything a typical Bluray player does and more.

Sony would rather have you spend less to buy the PS3 than spend more to buy the standalone player.

Even my dad managed to figure this one out.

I knew about that but it's something that you have to ADD ( extra cost ) to the PS3 where as the panny BD30 is already good to go and is now cheaper than the PS3. So if you are not interested in the gaming aspect and looking for a stand alone player the BD30 looks to be the better deal at this time.

bronco67 08-11-2008 08:54 PM

yes, what they all said. The ps3 is an excellent BluRay player.

It's hard to not play the games, though. I originally intended to just have Guitar Hero3 for parties, now I play that shit way too much. I wake up in the middle of the night playing guitar.

Redrob 08-11-2008 11:21 PM

PS3 Rocks!!

Violetta 08-11-2008 11:58 PM

I want a blueray dvdplayer as well!

venus 08-12-2008 01:08 AM

If your streaming movies direct from netflix why get a bluray, the reason to have a bluray is to watch movies in 1080p.
the only way to watch a bluray movie and watch it the way it was ment is to have it on bluray disc and on a TV that has 1080p
