CNN Spam E-mail from Stolen NATS List Makes CNN.com

I think this was mentioned in another thread, but pretty much every e-mail I ever used signing up for NATS has been getting bombarded with the CNN Daily Top 10 e-mail. Must be a big thing because it's on CNN.com.

http://behindthescenes.blogs.cnn.com...-about-cnncom/

Just Mike 08-11-2008 12:47 AM

Persius 08-11-2008 12:55 AM

commonsense 08-11-2008 01:02 AM

What does it have to do with Nats? I've received those emails at just about every email address I have, adult and non adult.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 08-11-2008 01:21 AM

i've been getting slammed up the ass with those CNN Top 10 spam emails for probably a week now, damn near 100 of them one day...

Mutt 08-11-2008 01:35 AM

whoever these people are they either have big balls or incredibly stupid - they've been sending hundreds of millions of spam emails which are linked to nasty executable files as if they were coming from Microsoft and CNN - I am sure millions of naive surfers are clicking on those links.

plsureking 08-11-2008 01:54 AM

ive seen them in my spam box too lol

it looks like it hit the entire internet,
so, as mentioned, whats it gotta do with nats?

i hate nats too, but i doubt this is related..

jact 08-11-2008 02:08 AM

I guess our spam appliance is just too good, I haven't seen a single one of these :(

Alky 08-11-2008 02:37 AM

i didn't see anything about nats in that article...

Spudstr 08-11-2008 02:42 AM

they must be trying to refresh/increase their botnets :(

raven1083 08-11-2008 03:35 AM

didn't find any stupidity on that article

papill0n 08-11-2008 03:40 AM

Same fucking thing here ! I tried to remove my email from the list numerous times !
FUCK NATS and CNN

Fabien 08-11-2008 05:00 AM

Oh yeah and they use the email that you signed using NATS as sotfware for returning email address with nasty .exe files !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cykoe6 08-11-2008 05:33 AM

The person who started this thread should post proof or be banned. That email has nothing to do with Nats. I am getting it on plenty of email addresses which I have never used with Nats.

Why 08-11-2008 07:05 AM

i can say that email addresses that only exist in NATS databases are various programs were hit. there for the email addresses(at least partially) came from hacked databases running the nats software.

there are many many programs profitting from this data as well. dont just jump TMM's shit people.

18teens 08-11-2008 07:38 AM

1 That article does not mention anything about NATS.

2 I'm getting hundreds of those emails to addresses that I've never used to sign up with NATS or any other program.

Yep, the email i'm getting hit with is used only for NATS sponsors. Now maybe this ain't a proof but between you and me :disgust

Tom_PM 08-11-2008 08:31 AM

I've never used a program with nats and yet I get the email spams to all of my addresses.

Connection = non-existant (IMHO).

gleem 08-11-2008 08:33 AM

Ruh-oh, someone is gonna get in trouble for adding "NATS" to the thread title.!

SiMpLe 08-11-2008 08:34 AM

I'm getting 100's per day grrrrr

GonZo 08-11-2008 08:40 AM

Why would you point a finger at NATS? I'm getting those spams in just about ever email address I have, including things that have nothing to do with adult biz. I'm even getting them to my ISP email account which has never been used for anything at all, never mind signing up for a NATS program.

Totally uncalled for man.

Rochard 08-11-2008 09:34 AM

The SPAM CAN laws haven't done jack shit.....

dav3 08-11-2008 10:37 AM

gmail must be on top of the game, cause i haven't noticed anything in my inbox.

Mickey_ 08-11-2008 10:49 AM

Jumping to conclusions. Everyone on planet earth has received the CNN spam, i surely would not be happy about this thread if i were in nats' shoes.

The only e-mail addresses I'm getting them to are the ones I used when signing up for NATS programs. It also isn't a basic e-mail. It's [email protected]. These e-mails have not been used for any other sponsor. I'm getting them on close to 15 NATS sponsor e-mails. So either all 15 of those companies sold my e-mail address to the same guy, or they were part of the compromised e-mail addresses that were stolen during the security breach.

And just because you get them at other e-mail addresses doesn't mean that these didn't come from the breach. My guess is that the guys doing this have many lists of e-mail addresses. I'd also imagine the NATS stolen e-mail addresses have been sold over and over again to different spammers.

This wasn't a knock on NATS, they aren't the ones doing it. But those e-mail addresses are the ones being hammered right now on my end.

Dude, i went to CCN not by clicking the link on the email. :helpme
Also, i'm getting hit the same as if i didn't do this so better try it ?

DigitalPimp 08-11-2008 12:45 PM

If I recall, the unsubscribe links I tested actually went to a CNN.com removal script. Of course it won't stop the emails but using it would be harmless.

qxm 08-11-2008 01:16 PM

I am getting this type of spam on every single email address I have... so I can rule out the possibility that this problem is in fact related to Nats ........

Supz 08-11-2008 01:20 PM

i guess all the people leaving comments on cnn.com must have signed up for NATS programs. :)

I am just going to assume that these spammers are hammering on everything, because I am getting those emails are addresses that have literally never been used for anything at all.

The thread title is a bit misleading as well since the link you provided doesn't make any mention of NATS at all. Unless its changed since you originally posted it?

I am sure you are correct. Spammers like that buy lists from multiple sources. I apologize if the title is misleading (someone can feel free to change it). But I noticed that almost all the CNN spam was coming through my original NATS e-mail addresses that no one in their right mind could figure out without some sort of access.

It wasn't meant as a knock on NATS, they run the best software out there in my opinion. They have admitted that e-mail lists were stolen awhile back, and I don't see why it's so far fetched to believe that these spammers have somehow bought those lists of the hackers. I am kind of surprised that this has garnered so much confusion since I thought the data leak was pretty well hashed out on the forums over the past months.

brassmonkey 08-12-2008 06:28 AM

man that sounds scripted they call you?

Thats ok, I still love you. We all make mistakes. :winkwink:
