not when you lose to Russians i the finals on your home ice... oh, and then, Ovechkin takes your "lucky loonie" and cuts it in two pieces..

MetaMan 08-10-2008 10:21 PM

id give your mom a gold for being so sexy. :2 cents:

EonBlue 08-10-2008 10:24 PM

Rowing hasn't finished yet. We'll have some medals then. :winkwink:

Besides, it's not Canada you need to worry about, it's Australia.

USA - population: 305 million - 11 medals so far

Australia - population: 22 million - 5 medals so far

On a per capita basis Australia kicks everyone's ass.

At least the Russians had their best player. Ours was still in the NHL playoffs.

Violetta 08-10-2008 10:37 PM

Norway = 1 silver so far...

as if that would have made any difference. You do realize that Russia was missing guys like Datsyuk and Malkin. Now that alone worth a lot more that crying dive-master Crosby.

Trax 08-11-2008 12:36 AM

looks more like the US is getting their ass kicked by China

I think China will end up with the most medals. They have a thing called Project 119 that was instilled after they got the bid to host the games. Basically they have been developing athletes in lesser known and competitive sports that offer a lot of medal opportunities. Shooting for instance is one and I believe half their medals were in that field.

You always have to worry about Australia. Turn your back for a second and they're drunk and trying to fuck your daughter.

I would have to say China is whooping ass right now. 7/3/0 to US 3/4/5? That's gold/silver/bronze.

i know i know :)
i just hate threads like that... you e.g. you can expect a huge chunk of US gold to come from one single person: Phelps.
distorts the image too
even though phelps is a robot... incredible and exciting to watch

seeandsee 08-11-2008 01:58 AM

4 top 3 countries in medals at any moment just search:

Only 1 medal so far and most likely it won't be much more

tranza 08-11-2008 06:05 AM

Blazed 08-11-2008 06:06 AM

One of the good things about now living in a country that doesn't win a ton of medals is how important each medal won becomes and the attention those athletes get. The UK will make a star out of somebody from the most obscure of events if the win the gold and people that win gold in track and field become national treasures. I kind of like that.

pornguy 08-11-2008 06:41 AM

Amazing that the host country is leading with so many gold medals.

Holly 08-11-2008 06:53 AM

We'll probably give them some of our medals that we don't care that much about, just so they won't whine and cry when it's over. Kinda like you do with your little brother or sister- give them the left over shit you don't want so they'll shut up and leave you alone.

I love it when the Aussies win. They're like our sister nation on the opposite side of the world, both having been born from British colonies.

When they win it's like a win for Canada as well, by proxy. :D

Doctor Dre 08-11-2008 08:27 AM

Georgia won a medal, I wonder if it will be re-atributed to russia in a couple weeks :)

Aussies have some awesome swimmers. :2 cents:

I root for the smaller countries a lot because many of those guys/girls don't have the same advantages that the athletes in these major countries do.

Umm yes it does matter. Its far more difficult for a country of 20 million to get together enough elite athleets to compete at this level, compared to a country with 15 times the population in the USA. China has 65 times Australias population. Anyway they don't hand out medals for per capita performance...

slavdogg 08-13-2008 01:13 AM

i like seeing how Russian + its former stats combined do
if you do that they're in 2nd place at 24 vs 27 US

Population doesn't matter? Um, sorry, but it matters a lot when considering the size of the pool from which a country has to draw it's top athletes from. A country with 320 million for example, is going to have many more times the athletes to pick from (for most sports) than a country 1/10th it's size. It's also going to have a far larger economy thus far more monetary resources to foster and train those athletes and develop organizations for them.

10 times the population, 10 times the wealth.

But we are trying to keep up. Honest.
