What good multiplayer stuff is out there that doesn't involve running around with a big gun in a 3d world shooting stuff? There's gotta be multiplayer stuff worth playing that isn't just an advanced version of quake.

Played that for a while - got boring quick.

Download the public beta test of asherons call 2 from http://www.fileplanet.com . Think the Sims Online is in beta now too, but not really intrested in that one myself. But asherons call 2 is pretty fun, I have played it 2 or 3 times and isnt all that confusing to pick up.

BF1942 is fun but it's a FPS still

check out Earth and Beyond (futuristic space), Dark Age of Camelot (medieval), or Everquest (still the most popular game ever)

I've played all 3 and they're all pretty fun, depends on how you like to play. If you're into player killing and total chaos wait for Shadowbane in Feb, or try Asheron's Call perhaps. Though DAoC does have a hardcore server now I think.

Earth and Beyond is better if you like to play in short bursts, the other games I mentioned sometimes hook you in for 3-4 hour sessions because you can't log out easily. E&B is laid out for casual gaming.

Lineage has by far more subscribers than everquest. Ask Korea why cause I think it sucks.

If you like racing games, then need for speed 5 (porsche unleashed) is for you... The realism in this game is amazing, and the multiplayer features are equally as good. I truly believe this is the best racing game ever made, it requires real skill and is the closest you'll get to an real race environment. Multiplayering is real easy, it's built into the game itself and EA runs it's own fast dedicated servers for this game. Give it a try if you're into the whole racing thing :)
