questions for shooters using make-up artistes.

do you keep the artist around for the entire shoot or just for that 1st application?

if not, i reckon you let the model do touch ups throughout?

if so, what's the arrangement for that? don't they end up sitting around a lot?

how did you screen initially too eh?

any extra thoughts/comments are super

thanksssssssssss:warning

We've used a couple people in the past, and normally they do the initial application then leave, and model does touch ups. I recently learned how to do makeup myself though, and I think I do a really nice job of it for being a guy (gay jokes ensue ;) ). Doesn't cost a ton to get a nice makeup kit setup. I do Dixies makeup for her anytime we shoot now, so she was good practice for me to work on lol. Normal costs for our makeup artists we used were 85.00 to 125.00. So saves a ton of money since I learned how to do it. :winkwink:

we keep them around, especially after a b/g shoot model needs complete new makeup. makeup artist can also help getting food or drinks while they have nothing to do - or clean up the location a bit. or choosing clothes. nowadays our makeup girl is fulltime employed with us, so it's not a question anymore.

keeping the MUA on set is best if you do more than one scene/set.
we change the make up/hair slightly to match the different wardrobe/setting etc.
my mua generally also helps with wardrobe selection and keeps our wardrobe organized and ready for next time use..

right on! so, what's a fair daily rate to keep the artist on location all day for touchups?

in los angeles eh

If it's just one scene at a time like I often film, I have the m/u artist do the makeup and hair too and then she takes off. If I have multiple shoots she'll hang around or come back for touch ups and for the second set of girls.
