Busted with a radar detector -- uhg!
 

I just got back from a shoot in small town Ontario. My balls are empty from two cumshots and so is my wallet from a $170 fine for the possession of a "radar warning device".

I left this morning around 9 am for a 2.5 hr drive north of Toronto to shoot myself and a small town country babe. I drove through one of the most heavily patroled OPP areas I've ever seen! Hwy 9/Caledon area. Holy fuck.

But was I worried -- fuck no -- at least I thought fuck no. So I'm in my corvette with the raday/laser detector on the dash and I'm smokin' along with a big "what me worried" smile on my face. Lo and behold my detector starts giving me a warning -- yes it's picked up some Ka band radar. No problem I slow down to about 84km. There, up ahead a spy the car -- one of those low profile jobs with no roof lights. I pull the detector off the dash and rest in on my lap. Big smile on my face. Bigger smiles on the cops faces who pass me in the cruiser.

ON GO THE CHERRIES.

Fuck...no way.. could they have... no.... fuck they're turning around. And everytime I've ever had a cop turn to come after me the same thought passes through my mind --
"I am sitting behind 300 horsies - 350 cubic inches - 5.7 litres of fuck off and eat my dust you fucking pig - C O R V E T T E! --

.... should I make a run for it???"

And the routine -- show me your license. And then they tell me they have a device that indicates I have a radar detector. So I have two choices. I can either hand it over or they'll search my car. My car is full of lights, cameras and model releases for a porn shoot that I'm about to engage in not to mention a handful of business cards that say "Chris Schillinger - PORNOGRAPHER" on them. I'm out in the middle of "bumfuck nowhere" and have just been pulled over by some farmboys with badges-- obviously I hand it over -- of course I remove my custom made corvette dash holder (for the next one hehehehehehe).

So -- I've had a radar detector for years and I've always known this day would come. I wanna fight it on Charter grounds.

Here's my argument -- I have the right to possess a radar detector because the state cannot infringe on my right to know the activities of the state. In other words I have a right to know where speed traps are -- not to get away with speeding but to make sure I'm within the speed limit. Second -- speed laws are enforced in a haphazard manner -- for example on most 400 series highways where the limit is 100km most cops will only nail you once you pass 120km - unfair enforcement therefore I have a right to protect against unfair state enforcement therefor I have a ritht to know where cops are - therefore the right to the possession of a detector.

How do I go about arguing this within the paramaters of a courtroom????????

One proven way out of it, which would have required some preparation on your part beforehand, has been to hard wire the detector to your battery so the cop has to cut wires to remove it, or for you to cut the wires yourself.

Apparently if they can't test the unit after they find it then that becomes a loophole.

Apparently there are newer models that can't be detected by their radar detector detectors.

Actually the loophole is because the cop has to splice the wires back together in order to test it, so you can argue it has been tampered with, which creates reasonable doubt, or something like that.

You need to get a new radar detector, they make em with VG-2 alert and scambling now

$170 fine and repossession is actually a light penalty. I've seen some people fined up to $500 and 8 demirit points. Suck it up, you got off easy.

Shit that sucks man, I had a nice radar detector in New Zealand, was picking up piggies from miles 1-2 k's off.

Bought it to Australia thinking i'll use it here. But the Queenland police here in Aussie don't like detectors and are really anal about speeding.

every 1/3 or 1/2 cop cars has a radar detector detector and they can pickup radar detectors from many k's off.

If they find one on your car here in Aussie, they take away your US$600 detector and fine you US$700 AS WELL.

But at least they don't corehole you :)

but i aint going down like that, court here i come =) u should go to court too and get a lawyer, they got me off once already...
