Internext.. do you bother renting a car?

or do you just taxi/towncar it if you want to go somewhere?

I usually taxi or towncar to and from the airport. I would like to hit SouthBeach or somewhere Sunday night if things have died down. Not sure if it warrants renting a car for the entire time or not.

Juicy D. Links 08-04-2008 05:10 PM

nah no need too rent a car

Robbie 08-04-2008 05:13 PM

Hey PK, I lived in Lauderdale and Miami throughout the 1980's. Back then you did NOT drive between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on I-95 It was a parking lot. Since I was in a band that was never a problem for me as I usually woke up around 7 p.m. lol

I'm sure traffic is worse now. If I were you I'd save myself the hassle and grab a limo around. That's what I'm gonna do. There is going to be so much going on at the show hotel itself that you probably won't have time to go anywhere except for maybe on Sunday night. No sense paying for a car and parking for all that time.

We rented a car last year and ended up using maybe once or twice... not really worth the extra hassle.

RyuLion 08-04-2008 05:18 PM

I'd go with what Robbie said, plus you won't have to worry about drinking..
Limo party at Robbie's limo!
(there's a lot of cops on the street)

Don't bother, parking per day on site is just as expensive as renting a car. You may as well just use car service when you need it then pay for a car and then pay again for parking which is probably $20/day or more.

Just steal one...

Someone gota recommendation and a link to a car service in Miami?

The Heron 08-04-2008 05:42 PM

Rented an suv a few years back, much easier to taxi though they can be a bit hard to find sometimes too.

Peaches 08-04-2008 05:45 PM

Fay and Dave rented one a few years ago and it was nice to have a friend who had a rented car - do that :)

I was in that area recently and seriously, the construction on the main roads is just surreal and this is coming from someone who's used to ATL traffic. I needed one for the reasons I was there, but you couldn't pay me to rent a car during Internext.

Most of the parties have shuttles, taxis are everywhere, people who live there usually bring their bling bling cars you can ride in, etc.

Do you mean a car and driver? Or renting a car. If I wanted to go to a bunch of different areas in Miami/Lauderdale during the show...I would just grab a limo at the airport and take the guys card that drove me. That would be the easiest thing to do.

beemk 08-04-2008 05:59 PM

you can spend less $ on taxis than you would on a rental. not to mention you wont have to worry about drinking and driving if you hit any bars, not to mention getting lost.

Ycaza 08-04-2008 06:03 PM

I have done all 3, I rented a car, I drove once, when I lived in tampa, andhave done the taxi thing. I loved having a car and I loved not having one. Its convenient when you want to go somewhere, and it sucks getting it out of the lot, valet or not.

Yep like a limo or towncar service. Usually not much more than a cab and a more relaxing ride.

As a number of peeps have already said ... Limo/town car/taxi to the hotel and work it out from there.

Unless you need to drive somewhere every day, there really is no need to hassle with a rental.

Taxi's, town cars and limos are more convenient (in most cases) anyway, and they usually know their way around a lot better than any of us. :winkwink:

:2 cents:

Barefootsies 08-04-2008 06:29 PM

Nah. I almost always rent a car, unless it's a short trip... like Chitown conference or something.

I prefer to have the freedom to check out the town when I want. I do not care about the valet $25 a day. Plus if a show is lame, I might shoot off to Miami, or sight see.

No unless u want to do day trips - but that defeats the purpose of coming to a show...

True dat.

I generally will get a smaller car for trips where I do not plan to drive a lot. For those tips, like L.A., where I will be in my car a lot. I will get a bigger vehicle.

I dont bother going to Internext unless its in Vegas. And then I dont need to rent a car. And most of the time I still dont bother with Internext.

Adult Creative Labs 08-04-2008 07:05 PM

I rented a car once. It was good to go to eat at different places but it had no other use really.

TeenDeja 08-04-2008 08:19 PM

Hi PersianKitty,
I wouldnt bother to rent a car. I had to make a run to the mall last year and I took a taxi. It was a little pricey not compared to renting a car just to use it for a few hours tho. Plus save yourself the trouble of trying to find your way around!
I met you in Las Vegas (in the suite that had the water in the floor, I fell in), I believe you said it was your first convention ever, I guess you enjoyed it! Now your hooked huh!
