google update

Judging from the indicatators i use this google update looks like it's going to destroy alot of people's biz who rely on it...going across the board algo has totally changed for the worse in a huge way.

Fletch XXX 10-24-2002 12:21 PM

How so?

CrystalClear 10-24-2002 12:24 PM

What has happened? Where can I find more info?

cherrylula 10-24-2002 12:24 PM

You mean google is dropping the people who've been tricking her for good pr? :1orglaugh

i just shed a tear :waaaaahh

:1orglaugh

But honestly, in the big picture of things google wants to make searches fresh and current, alive. If you can grasp that concept, and view the internet as a living thing, it makes a lot of sense.

From what I have read Google's ultimate goal is to crawl and update DAILY. Whoooopeeeee better update those pages for relevancy.

angelsofporn 10-24-2002 12:25 PM

I'm showing most of my terms have gone from 1 to 50+
If this is the actual update then this will change alot of things

Tipsy 10-24-2002 12:55 PM

Google hasn't even quite started to dance yet. Give it a week to start and finish and then start worrying.

Mr.Fiction 10-24-2002 12:58 PM

Looks interesting.

Shoplifter 10-24-2002 01:03 PM

This is not the update, it is some sort of algorithm change based on OLD data. I just looked at my cached page and it was from 4 months ago. It was showintg the new one up until today.

frankfortuna 10-24-2002 01:04 PM

There is no update activity yet. How long have your domains been in Google, prior to the last update? Everflux can have a dramatic effect on sites indexed between updates is why I ask.

daddynastee 10-24-2002 01:14 PM

I noticed the same thing when I checked the cached version of my page yesterday -- it's from two months ago. And our listing, which was a first-pager, has vanished -- we're buried somewhere now 80 pages back. Nightmare.

Can someone please explain what exactly is going on? I'm trying to follow the thread here -- but my Paxel hasn't kicked in, and everything is too painfully confusing.

For instance, angelsofporn, can you talk some about what the 'update' was, when it went into effect, and what's the objective.

And Tipsy, please elaborate more, too.

Thanks

Ya but this thing thats happeneing oin the other sub domain databases is different from anything that has ever happened pre update...and it looks apocalyptic
You have to admit that this is very unusual...and scarey

Yep...they wouldn't start indexing things if they were just going to discard them.

correct google is really going to fuck over many

Tipsy 10-24-2002 03:48 PM

For those confused about when Google is actually dancing and rearranging stuff properly you just need to look at the number of linkbacks to a popular site over the three Google servers (www,www1,www2). If they differ then the dance is in progress.

http://google.fergusons.dk/?q=link%3...Fwww.yahoo.com

is a nice little page that displays all 3 for yahoo. Just keep an eye on the link pop in all 3 pages and when they're different it's happening (currently all show about 657000 I think).

The dance is due very soon and until that happens and finishes I wouldn't get too upset about anything. Chances are they are spending a few days playing around and tweaking just prior to the dance to get it right. The important results will be in around a week or so's time once the dance has started and finished. Until then nothing's too set in stone.

NoCarrier 10-24-2002 04:07 PM

The dance hasn't started yet. Give it a couple of days..

daddynastee 10-24-2002 04:25 PM

What's 'the dance'? And 'rearranging things properly'...what's that?

Is there somewhere online to actually read about 'the dance.'

It sounds so fucking omninous?
