OK Florida people please school me some for Internext.

What restaurants are good and nearby, what are their price ranges (wine and alcohol excluded), how close are they, are stone crab in season?

After Shock Media 08-01-2008 03:57 AM

Seriously now, come on.

LauraLee 08-01-2008 04:51 AM

Unfortunately, no it is not stone crab season, as that runs from October 15-May15th.

In regards to restaurants, the Diplomat is situated in Hollywood and IMO the best food choices will either lie in Fort Lauderdale (north up the beach) or Miami (further down south).
If you are in the mood for meat I would highly suggest Chima on Las Olas (Ft Lauderdale). It's an Argentinian Steakhouse, very good, but pricey, and reservations would be a must. If you are looking for a more casual/fun place hit up Opa (greek) which is just a few blocks from the Hotel and also on A1A.
Oh, also, right across the street from the Diplomat property is Nikki Marina. It's pricey but has some great seafood and you can eat sitting out by the water.

Hollywood has TONS of great places to eat. from local dives like Tarks (sea food) on federal highway to the more upscale like Hollywood Prime at the hotel.

Le Tub for an amazing burger on A1A about 4 miles from the hotel. Argentango for a great steak on Young Circle. Downtown hollywood has become very trendy and a cool place to hang out with some good bars and local eateries. Just stay away from Beef eaters IMHO.

Sea Food Billy's Stone crab is a good choice even though stone carb is out of season. Also next door to Billy's is Taverna Opa for greek food and a non stop party. Top Bucks thru a killer party there one year. Several great sushi places as well. My local fav is Sushi Blues on Harrisson street. Also Eddy Hills is very good both are a short cab ride from the hotel.

I eat out 3 nights a week on avg and mostly here in hollywood so I know a thing or 2 about the restaurants around here =)

Opa is fun, but it's loud. If you still want good greek food or seafood visit the sitdown, quiet part called Georgios. Right down the street from the hotel.

Nikki Marina has an incredible Sunday Brunch Buffet that's incredible. Starts at noon.

Chima is a Brazilian type steakhouse. I already have my reservations for there. : )

Sharky 08-01-2008 09:12 AM

There is a great Sushi place in Hollywood called "The Sushi Room." It's connected/next to another pretty good Italian restaurant as well.

Check it out: http://www.sushiroom.com/

I lived in Ft. Lauderdale all through the 1980's...lot of coke down there back then so I didn't eat much. But when I did they used to have this place called "McDonalds" It was pretty good. :)

If you have the time, go the few miles south to South Beach and check out some of the small specialty restaurants a couple of streets in from the beach. I make a couple of boat trips a year there and stay at the Miami Beach marina and walk to these places, excellent food:thumbsup

Get these phrases ready for FLA...

"Fuck, It's Hot..."

"G'damn I think I'm melting"

"Fuck, She's Hot..."

"OMFG Seriously guys, my feet just melted into the sand..."

Worth a reservation? Still have yet to hit one of those type of places.

Oh and the more links the better, thanks sharky.

Chima is good...

Inside the Hotel. Aziza is very good and Hollywood Prime is AMAZING :)

fuzebox 08-01-2008 01:46 PM

I love the place across the street, but the name always escapes me, hopefully someone else will chime in. All I know is I love their bloody mary oysters.

No problem. Had a really memorable dinner there last year! The sushi and atmosphere was great, good saki and better company.

I'll be going again this year for sure

AZ has that nice dry heat where you feel cool in the shade. Florida is like a hot miserable wet blanket sauna that wraps itself around you with no escape. :)

I must agree 100%, Chima is the shiznit. Love that place, havent been there in a few months. Opa is a fun time, if you go, the filet cubes appetizer is great, the fresh made humus is the best i've eaten.

A few other good places that arent to far.

Italian, If you want a nice small place with the best homemade style Italian food, Sarafina's is a place to go, they only have about 4-5 tables inside and sit another 7-10 tables out back right on the intercoastal. It's a few blocks east of sunrise blvd, about 10 minutes north of the hotel

Cuban, not very fancy and great prices. But the food is fantastic. Good place to have a big meal with lots of people. Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine on Oakland Park Blvd.
