Would you rename a model/pornstar for a new site?

Wondering if anyone has input or experience renaming a model. This model has shot for about a dozen different sites and is pretty well known, she had a website using her name that was run by a separate program. The program owns the site and a fair amount of content, but are not updating anymore, as they have used all their content of this model. The model wants a website but wants to change her name so as the program owner does not get any residual monetary gain from her.

I understand the models point, but think it would be hard to establish a new name for her without going through a long process of reacquainting her to the world. If this can or should be done, how should it be done? thanks for any input.

who owns the rights to the name?

I hate when people try to do a rename.:disgust

JaneB 07-30-2008 09:51 PM

The model does. She just wants to break away from the old website and restart with a new name. The problem is a lot of people know her by that name and she is already on a ton of sites that list models.

Mutt 07-30-2008 09:54 PM

if she's well known she shouldn't rename herself - it's lame - she should at least keep her first name.

commonsense 07-30-2008 09:54 PM

Models want lots of things that don't make sense. Make sure she's not entered into a contract with the other program. It wouldn't be that far fetched for her to lie about that though

if she is that popular to change names is crazy. Remember tina turner she asked for nothing in the divorce except her name. That's how strong name recognition is.

Then again, porn fans are notorious for tracking down "who she is" and it might create more allure and sales. The "who is this girl?" threads are notorious. So many websites just make up names for real pornstars even.

If she's going to make a lot more content under the new name, I don't think it would hurt that much, but if she can legally keep her name, it's an obvious choice.. Why risk it

SteveLightspeed 07-30-2008 10:05 PM

Why doesn't she want to work with the original program that has the existing site anymore?

Iron Fist 07-30-2008 10:06 PM

Would not recommend :)

She should pull a Prince.... "The Porn Star Formerly Known As ........"

You could probably get away with doing enough of a rename to make her recognizable, but discrepant enough to avoid the copyright issues. Next Door Nikki (Now Nikki Sims), Peachez 18 (Now Real Peachez), Cherry Potter (Now Cherry Petite) and a few other models did a few small changes.

I agree with nighthawk, something different enough to get away with it is prob a good idea

From what she said they promised her a lot of things and then did not follow through. It is hard because I know the model well and the couple that run her old website. They are all great people, and I really do not know their side of the story.

I know for a fact that she is not in a contract with them. The couple that runs her old website is really nice and they even recommended her to me as a model.

is this Kristina Wood model?

Honestly I do not want to mention what her name is on here.

NemesisEnforcer 07-31-2008 06:19 AM

She should keep her original name and take advantage of her existing popularity. Let the fans know that the new site is her official site.

The fans are pretty smart. Erin Moore?s name was changed to Ruth Blackwell. I shot her as Erin Moore and the fans keep asking me about her Ruth Blackwell name. They appear to be more comfortable with her as Erin Moore.

pornguy 07-31-2008 06:50 AM

Sounds like you actually might want to stay away.

czarina 07-31-2008 06:55 AM

unless she is pretty popular already, keep her first name and add a cool last name

tranza 07-31-2008 07:12 AM

If she's popular she shouldn't try a rename...

Is buying older site an option?

About renaming, I'd say she keep her first name and add something with it. Like, if her first name is Nikki, you can try .. SweetNikki, Nikki18, XoXoNikki etc.

I was thinking about that. I will have to contact them and see if they are willing to sell it.
