ePassporte in Costa Rica
Anyone know if I can withdraw cash from ATMs in Costa Rica with the ePass Visa Electron card? If so, what are the fees?
|
Yes you can, not sure on fees.

Thanks for the info!
By the way, your girl, Dixie, is converting very nicely! |

Yea, no problems. Be sure to use an ATM from a private bank (HSBC, BAC, Cuscatlan), they work better -- ask fuzebox how he likes Banco Nacional for epass. Either way you'll lose a few percentage points on the conversion if you ask for local currency. Depending on what you're using the money for (hotels, hookers and casinos take dollars, yay!) most machines will let you take out US dollars and epass'll charge you the usual 2 bucks.

Anyway, I have pulled a lot of cash through costa rican ATMs over the last 3 years, but I like to stick with BCR (Banco Costa Rica), BAC San Jose, and HSBC, who have never thrown up an error and provide a $500+ withdrawal limit. You will run into a slightly outdated exchange rate though, although my last withdraw of 200,000 colones cost me $378 from epass (including the withdraw fee) which is pretty damn good. |
I had great luck with ScotiaBank in Rhomoser in 2007; I wasn't even charged a fee for using it.

Thanks for all the input guys.
