Did anyone else get charged a deposit at the Diplomat?

I've never had the Diplomat charge me before showing up before, but last week I got charged over $400 on my credit card for my upcoming stay. Very odd, since I didn't receive any warning about a deposit. Has anyone else experienced this? Or am I special enough to be the only one :Oh crap

CIVMatt 07-29-2008 03:39 PM

You're special to me if that counts for anything

MaDalton 07-29-2008 03:41 PM

nope, got that too

At least it's not just me!

I'm seeing it more and more often where most of the shows we attend are charging 1 night deposit a few weeks in advance and the balance when you checkout. Nice way to get between 1-30 days worth of interest from the banks in advance. Picture 998 rooms at the Westin * 400 minimum = $399,200 worth of deposits. Not a bad chunk of change and a great way to guarantee funds for no-shows.

I didn't..
maybe because I'm not staying there..:1orglaugh

Hey Elli....

Most shows (including The Atlanta Forum) will charge your card for the first night either when you book the room or some weeks before the event. This usually happens especially when the show has booked the entire hotel for this one event. Trust me when I tell you that my ass puckered when I signed the contract guaranteeing all the rooms for the forum...I can only imagine how big the contract is for the Diplomat. Woza!

Dont worry....they charge all of us...but it is only what you have already agreed to pay. ;)

Oh, I didn't have a problem with it! This is just the first time it's happened to me. Usually the hotel says a deposit MAY be charged, but this is the first time it's actually happened.

I had the exact same thought! (Except I didn't actually bother to do the math) :)

Maybe we should start charging customers who look at the free tours of paysites a little deposit against the time that they decide to get full membership ;)

Yep a while ago even

On the reservation page in small print it says they will charge your card for 2 nights as a deposit.

Fight the magnifying glass!

Ahh.. I examined my confirmation email but not the page. Fight the skim reading!

PersianKitty 07-29-2008 05:12 PM

I made my reservation on March 5th. They told me at the time I'd get a charge for 2 nights about 60 days before my stay. On June 11th, they hit my Amex for over $952.38 (2 nights plus 6% Sales Tax and 5% Occupancy Tax.

They told me if I canceled before 06:00 PM on Thursday, 24 July 2008 there would be no forfeit amount. If I canceled after 06:00 PM on Thursday, 24 July 2008 the forfeiture amount would be the equivalent of one night's stay.
