Does your accountant know you sell porn?

Some people embellish the truth and will say "internet advertising" but not specify what it is they advertise or say "web design" etc but what if you have a ton of 1099's and some have obvious names like BANGBROS.COM inc in the heading? The accountant will need to see all the 1099's to type them in the computer.

bausch 07-28-2008 07:12 PM

Some of the companies have discreet names, but some don't and have strange sounding names or names that are recognizable.

tony286 07-28-2008 07:16 PM

Mine does.

The Heron 07-28-2008 07:17 PM

Pretty sure it's smart to be honest with your lawyer and accountant...

Tat2Jr 07-28-2008 07:20 PM

I would NEVER hire a CPA that didn't know exactly what I did. It's the very first question I ask when I've had to look around and get a new one.

bausch 07-28-2008 07:27 PM

If you only promote sites tho, is it still necessary to tell them? I mean what is the difference between promoting linkshare or something similar vs selling porn? The expenses will be the same such as advertising, hosting, pc equipment, office supplies etc. Does the product really matter?

Also won't every single male in the U.S know what Bangbros.com INC is (I have other 1099's but I think that one is one of the most obvious ones) I never met a guy who hasn't heard of them, I mean EVERY male that has been online would most likely know right? Is there a chance they wouldn't know?

I'm just afraid of "weird looks". I am a very sensitive person. It's not that I am embarrassed of porn, I am just afraid of people having a negative "judgment" about me about ANYTHING, not just porn. I care about what people think of me (in general).

spunkmister 07-28-2008 07:28 PM

why does the opinion of your accountant have anything to do with them doing your paperwork? as long as you arnt doing anything illegal then who cares? if they have a problem because you work in porn then shit get another one, its not like CPAs are hard to come by.

It doesn't matter greatly, but it would be a moment of uncomfortable-ness and I like to avoid those because I have anxiety and I don't want an anxiety/panic attack.

if you are that concerned about what people think then do something else. if you cant be honest about what you do then whats the point? be like living a lie everytime someone asks what you do.

I am concerned about what people think about other things too besides what I do, it's not just that.
I just have anxiety and I get overwhelmed easily especially in social situations. I would have anxiety with the accountant even if i didnt sell porn but selling it makes me more anxious.

All my friends know what I do and I am fine with that. I am more afraid of strangers because I don't know them so it's more awkward.

fallenmuffin 07-28-2008 07:31 PM

Affiliate marketing ... put when she did my tax return she put "computer sales" lol

so you are afraid of what a total stranger, who you may meet for a minute and not see again, thinks of you?

how old are you? and are you a m/f? sorry its pretty hard to figure out from your posts.

Sly 07-28-2008 07:41 PM

I'm sure that the only thing your accountant cares about is your money.

Some people have more anxiety than others, it's a disorder. Has nothing to do with age or gender.

tony286 07-28-2008 07:48 PM

if you get a avn mag or it maybe avnonline, there is an accountant who advertises in the back.

My accountant knows I sell porn - he's seen the invoices from my domainregistrar :)

shekinah 07-28-2008 08:01 PM

Glad thing our accountant knows what we do. Business is business, nothing personal.

Sosa 07-28-2008 08:02 PM

He has seen some of my domain names

No.

However, I do not 'only' sell porn. I do other things online. They do know most of my income is from online, and I do have 1099's to file for the models. So I am sure they read between the lines.

:2 cents:

Scroto 07-28-2008 08:41 PM

yes SHE knows all about it lol, why hide it.. :pimp

WiredGuy 07-28-2008 08:47 PM

Two people you should never hide information from, your lawyer and your accountant. Disclose to them what you do. If they have a problem with it, fire them right then and there.

you are correct:thumbsup

Shaze 07-28-2008 08:50 PM

Of course. there is no way of hiding this from your accountant.sooner or later they will find out, and it would be better to know if your accountant is okay with this in the beginning rather than later.

hypedough 07-28-2008 08:51 PM

My accountant thinks I sell pastries. But really, that's not something you hide from your accountant.

F-U-Jimmy 07-28-2008 09:10 PM

clickyoucutie 07-28-2008 10:35 PM

There are some CPA's that specialize in adult industry...

hmmm, this thread made me think maybe I should not launch cpa-gangbang-cash.com

CDSmith 07-28-2008 11:04 PM

My accountant not only does my taxes but handles my investments, and even did my will up for me.

You bet he knows all.

And no, he doesn't have a problem with it. He's been handling my stuff for 8 years now. In fact I think he's actually a bit envious of how I make my living.

yahoo-xxx-girls.com 07-29-2008 12:11 AM

I just needed a print up of my checks that I cashed from the financial institution... and that was all that was needed. :)

how far did that $100 bucks stretch for ya :thumbsup :1orglaugh

Calico Jack 07-29-2008 12:35 AM

The sure do, afterall I claim a lot of business deduction inluding domain names which surely leave nothing to the imagination!

Emil 07-29-2008 02:46 AM

She get all the papers with domain-names and such stuff on them so I think she does.

After Shock Media 07-29-2008 02:56 AM

Well it would seem a bit strange if he did not and I was asking him to deduct 150 pairs of panties, 200 pairs of stockings, 150 bras, about 90 sex toys, video cameras, still cameras, lighting equipment, model fee's, assorted beauty salon bills, domain names, and well I am sure you get the picture.

Then again he is my father in law too.

One thing that did strike me is you said you do not mind people that know you knowing what you do and just not strangers. Even before my accountant was my father in law all my previous accountants were very far from strangers. These would be people I would see and speak with often. Which would make them people that know me.

webboy21 07-29-2008 02:58 AM

mine does, and that's exactly why I picked him because he has experience in the field :)

polish_aristocrat 07-29-2008 03:07 AM

I have a tax advisor/lawyer who knows more or less what I do and an older female accountnant who works for him who might not be aware (I don't know/don't care).

edit: Bausch, heh... I wonder if you're so concerned about what people think about you, then aren't you concerned what GFY thinks about you? Just curious...

Which particular disorders have you been diagnosed with?

:error

You do realize what a CPA does don't you? If you get audited who do you think you take with you to deal with the IRS? Is that really the time you want to be filling him/her in on what you're doing? I'd hate to find out then that they had a problem with what I do.

Plus, you just answered your own question..... "its not like CPAs are hard to come by"..... you're right, so why not find one that has no problem with what you do?
