Anyone hear of the new search engine "Cuill"?

One in a long line of Google competitors for sure, but this is ex-google peeps..

Its already been post mate, about 5-6 posts down from this.

Regardless of its features i think google will still dominate.

_Richard_ 07-28-2008 11:29 AM

haha i just saw it

Dollarmansteve 07-28-2008 11:32 AM

search technology is so transparent to the end user, that the brand is all that matters. No one will ever say "I cuiled my own name yesterday" or "I just cuil'd that guy". Google is the dominant brand, it's brand is independant of its technology.

yea.. but i remember people saying exactly that over google..

what i find interesting is that this isn't being sold. I would think there would be a little more to the search engine if that was the case

how do you know their intent?

if i was a 120K per year software engineer... i would do this EXACTLY... hype my little "dream team"... solicit for VC funding and spend the next few years spending someones $100,000,000.00 before cashing out.

the site sucks ass from top to bottom, the results are retarded and they are already hyping it to the press. ... hardly the sign of competent people with a solid, long term plan.

Before google I don't think anyone said "I altavista'd myself" or "I'm going to go home and yahoo it" or "did you lycos it?". If they did... it didn't catch on.. google is like kleenex or Q-tip.

Pleasurepays 07-28-2008 11:40 AM

not only that... there is a very solid reason for not "indexing every page on the internet" and thats that 80% of those "pages" are useless and garbage... so their primary selling people is hardly a selling point to convince anyone that knows anything about it.

OTerror 07-28-2008 11:57 AM

that search = slow as fuck

Jarmusch 07-28-2008 12:05 PM

We’ll be back soon...

Due to overwhelming interest, our Cuil servers are running a bit hot right now. The search engine is momentarily unavailable as we add more capacity.

Thanks for your patience

i got a bit further and then this:

No results because of high load...

Due to excessive load, our servers didn't return results. Please try your search again.

i was thinking the same thing at lunch.. it said in the article that they had sold a previous code to Google in 2004, and was curious on why they didn't do it again. I realized thinking about it that the media attention this has garnered, that it just hadn't happened 'yet'
