China passes US, now #1 internet population

The country with the highest number of citizens has now also become the country with the highest number of netizens. China has surpassed the USA to become the world's largest Internet market with 253 million web users at the end of June

I want to launch a Chinese website with an associate. I installed East Asian characters and explore the Chinese internet through Baidu.

If anyone is looking to translate/localize their site/s in Chinese. Feel free to contact me.

Too bad only 30 of them have a credit card.

Not for long. Eventually we'll all want to get our sites and such in Chinese (good thing only 1 kind of written Chinese covers most the population decently enough, unlike the multiple languages to deal with Europe). Not to mention the China UnionPay system that's already around, that you can be a merchant for with alternative payment processors.

As long as the PRC government doesn't block the shit out of adult sites, I think we'll see a lot of action there in the coming years.

There are actually more rich people in China than there are in the US. Well, no wonder with that amount of people. And they have credit cards and the basics in english language. They just can't enter adult sites, because of their idiotic government.

I was watching a show the other day that was kind of ironic. It seems we here in the US have a thirst for cheap Chinese made products but what you never hear about is the Chinese rich and middle class have a thirst for quality American made products.

Granted there is a big deficit in the two, but seems like a lot of money could be made in China with brick and mortar type business of exporting quality goods there.

Most of stuff is very cheap in China, so exporting from there makes more sense. :)

You are missing what I said. There is a very large and growing middle and rich class in China and they "want" quality American made products. They don't want cheap stuff that is made in China. Buying American made goods is a form of a status symbol there. It means you are rich enough to do it.

So while you ship stuff there which would likely be very cheap because the trade deficit is so big you could then turn around and export stuff as well. The shipping container goes both ways...

They also rank number 1 in Online Censorship LOL!

NO where else in the world is as censored as the Chinese web experience.

I know what you mean, from what I know almost 10% of their population is middle class or wealthy, which is 140mil. now? But the thing about cheap China products...nowadays everything is made in China, so also the expensive stuff. Yet, some snobbish stuff may work, old western brands.

What are quality American products? I know Germans make great cars and clocks. Anything we send over like our clothes will be copied for pennies on the dollar. Textiles used to be huge for US, but now it always goes to the cheaper not better...so most of that has been taken over by India. Its tough to compete with slave wages plus a country that has their currency artificially pegged to keep their exports going to the USD

Seems they like a lot of the quality American made clothing and various furniture. Stuff like that, but I'd say any well known American brand of "anything" would likely do well over there in the right groups.

I think it's the typical "grass is always greener in the other yard" kinda thing. They live in China and can get all the "cheap" crap they want. So many want the real stuff.
